Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic announced that construction of a museum dedicated to Novak Djokovic will start soon. This announcement came after the Serb won his first Olympic gold medal in Paris.

Djokovic beat Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-2) in the summit clash to become an Olympic medalist for the second time. He has claimed a total of 99 titles, including 24 major ones. Serbia wants to commemorate his achievements by building the museum. Vucic said that just like Spain honored Rafael Nadal by building a museum, they would do the same for Djokovic.

Palma de Mallorca has a museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal. We will strive to showcase what Djokovic has done for our country in accordance with his merits and at the same time attract tourists.

It was Djokovic’s second win over Alcaraz at Roland Garros, as he previously defeated the 21-year-old in the semifinals of the French Open last year. Djokovic became the fifth player to achieve the career Golden Slam after claiming the gold medal. He is a bronze medalist as well, winning it in the 2008 Beijing Games.

Novak Djokovic put everything on the line to win his first gold medal for Serbia

The fact that Novak Djokovic will not be there forever on the circuit and that he probably had played his final Olympics, made him more resolute when he walked onto Court Philippe-Chatrier to play his first Olympic final against a player who, before that final defeat to Djokovic, never faltered in the summit clashes of the four major events he played.

Carlos Alcaraz was the heavy favorite as he was the one to deny Djokovic his eighth Wimbledon title last month. The four-time major champion gave his all to eke out the victory, but Djokovic proved superior. After winning the title, he revealed his state of mind that compelled him to keep on fighting till the end.

I put my heart, my soul, my body, my family, and everything on the line to win Olympic gold at age 37. I finally did it. Everything about this is special, but most of all it is my country. It’s my pride to play for Serbia.
Novak Djokovic said after the match

Djokovic is set to feature in the Shanghai Masters for the first time since 2019. He is a four-time champion in the tournament, having won the title in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018.
