Serena Williams aces past Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Victoria Azarenka to claim ‘Record of the Decade’

Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka

Serena Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion. The 39-year-old is looking to add one more record-equalling Major title to her mantle. Whilst Williams is on her journey to do so, she hasn’t been one on the side-lines of the WTA Tour. Rather, she has been one of the most successful players.
She has fended off players like Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Victoria Azarenka to stand atop of the pile. As it turns out, the American has recorded the most number of wins against the Top-10 WTA players in the past decade (2011-2020). Plus, she hasn’t just transcended her competition. In fact, there remains a huge gap between her and her adversaries in this record.
Serena’s Record-Making Decade

Williams won a record-making 73 games against the Top-10 players. This is followed by Petra Kvitova, who scored 53 wins in her pocket. At the third spot is Azarenka, with 52 wins.
Further, Williams also emerged at the highest position when considering the best win percentage of the decade. She stands firm with an astounding 88.49%. At the second place is now-retired, Sharapova, with 77.37%.
Moreover, Serena also won the most number of matches at the Grand Slam events. She bagged 158 wins, while Angelique Kerber is second on the list with 101 wins.
With this, she eclipsed the list of players with the highest win percentage at Major events as well. The American edged past Sharapova by 10% to claim the win-rate of 88.27%.
Williams will next be seen in action at the Australian Open 2021.
