Serena Williams won her maiden Grand Slam title at the 1999 US Open, making her the youngest champion. She went on to win 22 more Slams before retiring in 2022. Looking back at her illustrious career, the American reveals she didn’t take enough time to settle into each victory as she kept aiming for more each time she won one.

The 42-year-old remains one of the greatest women’s players in the history of the sport. She reached 33 Grand Slam singles finals during her career, winning 23 of them. Her aim was to get past Steffi Graf’s 22 major title record and she did that at the 2017 Australian Open final beating her older sister Venus Williams 6-4,6-4.

Williams’ favorite surface was the hard court where she won 47 career titles, a women’s record. Her longest winning streak at a single Grand Slam was 26 in a row. She won consecutive matches at the US Open between 2012 and 2015. She lost to Roberta Vinci in the semifinals of the 2015 US Open. She remains the last American woman to win the French Open and she did that in 2015.

However, since retirement, she has now directed her drive into venture capital investments. But, relaying back memories of her victories, the American legend revealed that she never settled into every title won. She was always aiming for the next title after just winning one.

So now having the opportunity to hear people talk about it makes me super emotional. It's like, 'Wow, I honestly didn't know. I did not know.' I mean, obviously, I knew. But I literally won Wimbledon and I remember having a conversation with my dad: 'Dad, that was great, but I know I can win the US Open.' I never took the time to settle into my victories. I was always looking for the next “peak,” for lack of a better word.

Serena Williams is married to Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder. The couple has two daughters: Olympia and Adira.

Serena Williams admits she does not think about not reaching Margaret Court’s record

Serena Williams won 23 Grand Slams, one away from catching Margaret Court’s record of 24. She reached three finals after claiming her last at the 2017 Australian Open. Despite the regrets of not being able to reach Court’s record, the American admitted that she doesn’t think about it.

She and her sister Venus Williams won 14 major doubles titles together, as well as three Olympic doubles gold.

Never actually. I never do. Which is good, right? I had such an amazing career, and quite frankly, I should have had 30. I feel like I could have had way more than 24.
Serena Williams added.

The American legend has a new eight-part documentary coming up. It is about her career, titled “In The Arena: Serena Williams”, and will stream next month on ESPN+.
