According to the fans, the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics was far from satisfactory. There were lots of controversial performances and some major errors made fans call out the organizers. Rennae Stubbs, however, tried to explain by sharing a post, that the ceremony was not at all ‘blasphemy’. But she was criticized by Australia’s Nick Kyrgios.

A user, MarLa Frances shared a post and started explaining why there was a performance of a headless Marie Antoinette, who was an Austrian princess and was married to King Louis XVI of France, both of whom were blamed for the French Revolution. Drag queens’ depiction of the Last Supper angered the Christian community but the user explained that the performance wasn’t actually about the Last Supper. It was a depiction of an ancient Greek Bacchanal.

The user went on to explain what Bacchanalia is. She said the Bacchanalia is a party to honor the Greek god of wine- Dionysus, who, in the opening ceremony, was represented by a semi-naked French singer and actor Philippe Katerine, who also painted his body blue. She then revealed that the ‘pale horse’ in the ceremony was not ‘Death’ but actually represented the Olympic spirit and Goddess of the River Seine – Sequana. Stubbs agreed with her views, while Kyrgios, who doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind, asked her about the wardrobe malfunction.

To give more context to the controversy, when Katerine was performing, eagle-eyed fans spotted the testic*e of a background performer. Later, some reports claimed that the hole in the jacket of the performer tricked the fans into thinking that.

Prior to Stubbs, even the legendary Billie Jean King hailed the ceremony for celebrating ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusivity’. However, fans did not agree with her views and criticized her for them. The organizers also committed two major blunders- South Korea was introduced as North Korea and the Olympic flag was raised upside down.

Apart from all the mentioned performances, French heavy metal band, Gojira became the first hard rock band to perform at the Olympic opening ceremony. Athletes of every country sailed along the River Seine on boats with various performances along the banks.
