Tennis legend, Serena Williams became the newest member of the ownership for Canada’s first WNBA team, Toronto Tempo. The 23-time Grand Slam winner retired from professional tennis in 2022 and has since become a multi-millionaire. Williams, who earned over $94 million in prize money playing tennis, is now worth $340 million per Front Office Sports.

Williams has been an advocate for investing in sports. In fact, apart from being a Co-owner of Toronto Tempo, she has other business ventures, which include a minority ownership in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins team. She and her husband Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, are founding members of the NSWL’s Angel City FC.

Nonetheless, Williams joining the ownership of Toronto Tempo is because Canada holds a special place in her life. The former World No.1 made her professional debut in Canada in 1995, which set the pace for a successful career that saw her claim 73 tour-level titles, including 23 Grand Slams.

In a press statement, Serena Williams admitted that she was thrilled to join the ownership of the first Canadian WNBA team. She added that the investment is about showcasing the value and potential of female athletes.

The Toronto Tempo is one of the three new teams set to join the WNBA alongside the Golden State Valkyries and a Portland franchise. However, Toronto Tempo and Golden State Valkyries will make their debut this year, while the Portland franchise will launch in 2026.

Serena Williams shares about her daily prayer ritual with her daughters on social media

Serena Williams graced the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday (March 2). The 43-year-old took to Instagram and shared a series of pictures, on her page. However, in one of the pictures she revealed her daily prayer routine with her daughters. Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian are both Jehovah Witnesses.

In the picture she shared on social media, she was seen praying with her daughters, Olympia and Adira River, in bed while wearing the black sleeveless sequin dress with a thigh-high slit. She then added a caption saying that her intentions are to keep the practice with her daughters.

I try my best to pray everyday with them no matter the circumstances. I slay and I pray.

Williams remains one of the greatest players to ever grace the court. The American legend made history by becoming the first and only woman to win 23 Grand Slams during the Open Era. She also won 14 Grand Slam doubles alongside her sister Venus Williams.
