“I don’t even know where I am, but…”: Serena Williams speaks on her preparations for Italian Open 2021
Serena Williams
Ever since losing an emotionally charged semifinal to her newest nemesis Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open 2021, Serena Williams went on a hiatus and was absent for nearly half of the clay court season. However, to the relief of her fans, the 23-time Major winner will return to action at the ongoing Italian Open 2021.
Winner in Rome four times, the last one coming back in 2016, Serena is confident of a good showing, which will also show how much the American is prepared for the all important French Open 2021, which is just three weeks away.
“I’m going to have some good matches here hopefully”- Serena Williams
Serena never runs away from the challenges in front of her and in her pre- tournament press conference, the American looked optimistic for her chances in Rome.
“I trained for the past two-and-a-half weeks at Patrick’s academy, and then training a lot on the clay in the United States with team members, Mackie came back and other people joined, and that was really exciting for me. So, we had an intense, several weeks of training, very intense,” said Serena.
The legend further added, “I feel like I’m good. I’m in Rome. I’m going to have some good matches here hopefully, and then I will be at another Grand Slam which always makes me excited. So, I think either way I’ll be ready.”
Serena is too smart a player to say out her tactics in open. “Everyone gears up for Top 10 players, and so if I’m in the Top 10, I will be ready. Am I? I don’t even know where I am, but somewhere.”
Serena will kickstart her proceedings in Rome against either Nadia Podoroska or Laura Siegemund. It becomes imperative for Serena to play at her highest level if she wants to shake things up in the WTA. Expect a fiery Serena Williams in the coming weeks.
