23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams heaped praise on Andy Murray in a video message shared on social media. The Briton had decided earlier this year that it would be his last season on tour, which meant he is currently playing in his home Major for the final time.
Murray picked up a back injury at the Queen’s Club Championships and it threw a spanner in his preparation for the Championships. While he managed to recover, it was not enough for him to take part in the singles. He instead took part in the men’s doubles alongside his brother Jamie Murray.

Unfortunately, they lost in the first round, after which the tournament organizers had a ceremony to celebrate his career. Later, several players past and present took to social media to share their thoughts on the former World No. 1, with Serena Williams being one of them. She highlighted his vocal support for women throughout his career and thanked him for it.
I also hold a special place in my heart to you because you always speak out so much for women and everything that women deserve. You were the leader in that and the things you spoke about that. The thing you said about myself and Venus so many things about us.

Andy Murray was given a heartfelt farewell after his men’s doubles loss
Andy Murray was given a farewell ceremony at Wimbledon after his exit from the men’s doubles. It included a video where several players spoke highly about him, including the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

A very emotional Murray later thanked everyone and expressed gratitude for having had the chance to make a career out of the sport he loved.
It was pretty emotional, as well. Yeah, watching the video was nice, but hard as well, for me because you know it’s coming to the end of something that you’ve absolutely loved doing for such a long time. So that’s difficult.
