American legend Serena Williams had a unique and bold fashion game when she was playing. In a recent podcast episode, she revealed the motivations behind her unusual fashion choices, which were much bigger than here on-court attire.
Williams had to dress differently to stand out from the crowd as a Black girl who plays tennis. Having acknowledged that she was different from the rest, with a different playing style, Williams wanted to make a statement with these fashion choices.
She had started that journey with Puma, where the brand allowed the American to help with the design of her outfits, and started the whole craze. However, with the branding of Nike, Williams started to make a major statement with her fashion choices.

One of her fan-favorite outfits was the 2004 US Open mini skirt. With the help of Nike, the tennis ace had worn a black tank top and a jeans skirt to set the stage on fire. Though she did not win the US Open that year, her outfit was the standout without a doubt.
Serena Williams amped up her fashion game with a trophy-like look at the 2024 Met Gala
The Met Gala is a stage set for all the popular faces from around the world to show their fashion game to the world. Of course, Serena Williams had to be there during the 2024 edition, and she immediately grabbed all eyeballs with her outfit.
The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion had come in a gold and black trophy-like outfit, which fit under the theme ‘Garden Of Time’. Williams’ outfit epitomized limitless beauty and was a main standout among the other athletes.
She was not the only one from tennis to have set the stage on fire. Her rival back in the day, Maria Sharapova, had also pulled off a green fairytale gown hued with a tennis-ball-like color. Even Venus Williams, who had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction, wore her dress proudly. All the tennis stars stole the show and made quite a few headlines.
