Serena Williams has lived a tennis career that most players would only dream of. The American has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 73 WTA singles titles overall.
When a player has achieved so much, they might enjoy revisiting their roots to see how it all began. Williams did exactly that while speaking to ET during the preview of her documentary.
The journey has been incredible, but I was very young when I started on the circuit as a professional player. I'm not sure if it's something that changed me or something that shaped me as a person. Now I'm trying to figure out who I really am off camera. I've been in the spotlight 24/7 for 27 years.Serena Williams said on ET’s microphones
This week is notable for tennis documentaries, with Roger Federer and Williams dominating the headlines. Federer’s documentary, “Federer: Last Twelve Days,” is set to air on Amazon Prime on June 20. Just like the Swiss Maestro, Williams officially confirmed the end of her career at the 2022 US Open. Now, she will feature in her documentary, “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” which will explore the beginning of her career and her historic milestones.
Serena Williams to host ESPYS in July
Serena Williams is set to make a return to the sports scene as the host of The ESPYS in July. The retired tennis star, who has 23 major tournament wins to her name, will become the fourth woman to lead the event, which celebrates the past year’s top athletes, achievements, and moments. The ESPYS will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on July 11.
In the past, Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird, and Russell Wilson co-hosted the virtual 2020 ESPYS due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while Danica Patrick was the first woman to host the show solo in 2018 following her retirement from auto racing.
Throughout her illustrious tennis career, Williams secured 12 ESPY awards. The ceremony will take place a day after the July 10 premiere of “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” an eight-part series on ESPN+ that documents her career.
Since retiring after the 2022 US Open, Williams has focused on various ventures, including launching a makeup line in April and establishing a venture capital firm that supports women and founders of color in early-stage companies. Additionally, she welcomed her second daughter in August.
