Serena Williams has started to teach tennis to her youngest daughter, Adira River Ohanian. Williams shared a few pictures from their ‘practice session’ on her Instagram.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion called time on her career at the 2022 US Open after defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. Williams now runs various businesses, one of which is also her beauty brand Wyn Beauty. She also runs the Los Angeles Golf Club with husband Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder, who tied the knot with the retired tennis player in November 2017.

This is me sharing my passion for tennis with my youngest daughter.

Elena Rybakina on Serena Williams’ achievement

During her interview with Tengri News, Elena Rybakina was told about a trend on social media where people approach athletes and ask them to keep quiet until they hear someone’s name they think is better than their own.

Rybakina kept mum when the interviewer called Jasmine Paolini and Mirra Andreeva‘s names, but broke her silence when Maria Sharapova‘s name came. She also believes her rival Iga Swiatek plays better in terms of consistency. And for sure, Rybakina couldn’t keep quiet when the interviewer called Serena Williams.

I definitely wouldn’t keep quiet. Serena is also a legend here. Aryna has been showing very good results in the last two seasons. So, of course, Iga and Aryna are still my rivals, but overall, the results they’ve achieved are really great.

Rybakina met Williams once, in the 2021 French Open fourth round, which she won in straight sets. Rybakina ended the 2-25 season on a high note by defeating Sabalenka in the title clash of the WTA Finals. It was her third title of the season following her wins at the Strasbourg Open and the Ningbo Open. The win helped Rybakina earn a record-breaking $5.235 million.

Maria Sharapova on Serena Williams inducting her into the Tennis Hall of Fame

To the surprise of the tennis world, Williams inducted Sharapova into the Tennis Hall of Fame back in August this year. It was the five-time Grand Slam champion who requested Williams to introduce her. Recently, during The David Rubenstein Show, Sharapova recalled that moment and revealed what she wanted to achieve by asking Williams to induct her.

I said: There’s no one else I’d rather be on that stage than you,’ and she said, ‘I’m honored’. But it could have gone the other way. It didn’t, thankfully. And she was incredible. She was very thoughtful. Her speech was really strong, but it was also very personal. There’s that moment when she walked on stage, of like five to ten seconds, when there was a bit of silence and shock in the crowd, and I was like, I think we achieved what we wanted to achieve here.

Although Sharapova and Williams shared fierce rivalry, their head-to-head content is one-sided. They met 22 times, and the Russian could win only twice. Sharapova’s second win came in their penultimate encounter at the 2018 Roland Garros.

Sharapova called time on her career in 2020. The winner of 36 titles last won a trophy at the 2017 Tianjin Open by defeating Sabalenka. Williams, the winner of 73 singles titles, last won a trophy at the 2020 Auckland Open against Jessica Pegula. The last time she reached a Grand Slam final was at the 2019 US Open, losing the match to Bianca Andreescu.
