Women’s tennis legend Serena Williams has made a shocking yet interesting revelation about being ghosted (all communication cut off without explanation) by an ex-boyfriend during her early 20s. She said that it hit her hard and explained how it motivated her to become one of the best players in the world.
In an episode of the In the Arena: Serena Williams docuseries, Williams revealed that her first boyfriend ghosted her after spending two weeks together on a vacation. She said she was heavily affected by it despite it being not too serious and that it made her angry and vengeful.
The American said that she used it as motivation to become one of the best players on the women’s tour. Serena explained that she intended to make her ex-boyfriend regret his decision whenever he saw her or heard her name.
It was the first relationship that I had ever had, but I was in my 20s, so you know, whatever and then he ghosts me. So I used that as an opportunity to say, "He's gonna regret this for the rest of his life." That was just the motivation I needed, just the excuse I used to go the extra mile. 'I'm gonna make sure that this person never forgets me. I'm gonna make sure that this person sees me everywhere for the rest of their life" I'm grateful for it, so thank you.Serena Williams said (H/T: Daily Mail)
The former World No. 1 certainly used that to establish herself as one of the best players in the history of women’s tennis. She won 23 Grand Slam titles, the most in the Open Era and the second-most of all time.
Serena Williams honored at Kids’ Choice Awards 2024
Serena Williams not only made her ex-boyfriend regret his decision but also inspired a generation of athletes with her achievements. She continues to win awards even in her retirement. The American recently won the Legend Award at the 37th annual Kids’ Choice Awards.
The kids’ television network Nickelodeon honored Williams with the prestigious award in recognition of her sporting career and influence on popular culture. She was overwhelmed with the love she received and thanked the crowd in her acceptance speech.
This is so cool. You guys are the greatest crowd ever. I needed you all of those years at Wimbledon. I look at this crowd, filled with so many budding little legends, and I want all of you to know that no matter where you come from, and whatever your dreams are, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. If I can do it, you can do it.Serena Williams said
Kids’ Choice Awards winners are typically chosen in a fan vote by youngsters and other viewers worldwide, honoring their favorite TV shows, movies, athletes, and more. Nickelodeon, meanwhile, has stated that the award Williams won honors “an aspirational, game-changing global superstar whose name is synonymous with greatness.”
