Serena Williams becomes the latest star to withdraw from the Miami Open 2021

Serena Williams, the 8 time champion at the Miami Open has decided to withdraw from the 2021 Edition due to an oral surgery she underwent. The former World No. 1 and current World No. 7 has set numerous record at the tournament which includes winning the tournament as the oldest female player.
Miami has been one of the favourite places for Serena who has won 8/10 finals she has contested, and won 3 titles in a row twice, the first time in 2002-2004 and then in 2013-2015.
She has also been seeded No. 1 a record 7 times, most for a woman and shares it overall with Roger Federer who also has been seeded No.1, 7 times at the Miami Masters.
Speaking with the Miami Herald, Serena said, “I’m disappointed to withdraw from the Miami Open because of recent oral surgery.” Serena joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer as the top players who will not be featuring at this year’s edition.

The Miami Open is one of the largest tournament and has become a WTA Premier Mandatory event and ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
“Miami is a special tournament for me because it’s my home. I am sad I won’t be able to see the incredible fans this year, but I look forward to coming back soon,” she said.
With Serena promising the fans to come back again, the question about her future will be rested for a while after the American became emotional after being asked about her future post her defeat at the 2021 Australian Open.
