After a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky cemented his name in history books. The Russian goalie claimed his 400th career win in his 707th game, thus becoming the fastest goaltender to reach this win-mark.
The previous record belonged to Hall of Famer Hendrik Lundqvist, who achieved this feat in 727 games. The 42-year-old was present at the Madison Square Garden when Bobrovsky broke his record on Thursday night.
He had to work hard to get the record, though. The Panthers keeper made 24 saves in his side’s 3-1 win. Bobrovsky is now the 14th goalie in NHL history to have 400 wins. Ten of the thirteen others apart from Marc-Andre Fleury (still active) are in the NHL Hall of Fame.
With this incredible record and a Stanley Cup to his name, chances are that Bobrovsky could find his name alongside those elite players. After the game, Bobrovsky claimed it was a “privilege” for him to see his name beside some of the greats of the game.
