AC Milan manager Sergio Conceicao reflected on his side’s 2-1 Italian Supercoppa semi-final victory over Juventus. This important game kickstarted his Milan career on a high. The Portuguese boss gave a rather stern message to his players and fans during the post-match interview. 

The former Porto manager was appointed as a successor to Paulo Fonseca, who was sacked owing to the Rossoneri’s poor run. Kenan Yildiz opened the scoring for Juve in the 21st minute. Milan equalized through Christian Pulisic’s 71st minute penalty. Five minutes later, substitute Yunus Musah saw his cross getting diverted into the Juve net for an unfortunate own goal by defender Federico Gatti

Manager Sergio Conceicao, speaking after his debut AC Milan match, praised the team’s passion. He claimed that they deserved to be in the final after a brilliant second-half display. The Portuguese manager noted that he saw glimpses of doubt in his players in the first-half.

The newly appointed manager added that they were weak defensively and slow in moving. Conceicao, however, suggested that they knew what they had to do to win in the end. Nonetheless, he sternly expressed that the team is yet to achieve anything specific till now. 

In the second half, they showed real courage, and the game was completely different. I am happy, but we haven’t achieved anything yet. We are in the final and now we must prepare for the game against Inter.

AC Milan’s semi-final win means that they next face city-rival Inter Milan in the much-awaited final of the Supercoppa Italiana on Sunday. The Rossoneri will also be hoping to stage a resurgence in the Serie A. The club remain in the 7th position on the league table.

Sergio Conceicao provided an update on AC Milan’s star winger Rafael Leao’s injury. The update came ahead of a crucial Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter Milan. The 25-year-old forward is currently recovering from a muscle injury that he sustained during a match against Verona.

Leao is in a race against time to be ready for the final. In his absence, AC Milan has struggled in his absence, scoring just thrice in their last two matches. Manager Sergio Conceicao informed that the forward has been working out for the past few days in order to be fit enough to train with the team. However, he added that recovery might still last a few more days. 

Today, he did a workout that was close to what is needed from a physical point of view to get closer to working with the team. I don’t think he will be there tomorrow, let’s see the day after tomorrow.

While it is assured that Leao will not start the match against Inter, he might come on as a late substitute. The Nerrazurri, will also be without one of their star players. Marcus Thuram injured himself during the semi-final against Atalanta.
