Sergio Ramos has decided against continuing at his boyhood club Sevilla, bringing to an end his brief one-year spell at the club. The 38-year old is now a free agent on the market, and is expected to move outside Europe.
The ex-Real Madrid skipper, after spending a brief stint at PSG, signed at the beginning of the 2023-24 season. It marked his return to Sevilla after 18 years, most of which he spent in Madrid. Although his arrival sparked controversy among fans, he managed to win over them, drawing thousands to his presentation at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. He was signed by the Los Blancos in the summer of 2005, for a record €27 million.
Recognized as one of the greatest center-backs of all time, Ramos will publicly announce his decision to part ways from his boyhood club, in an event on Tuesday. The 38-year old played a crucial role in Sevilla’s defensive strategy that kept them clear of relegation threats during the latter part of the season. He played a total of 34 matches, scoring seven goals. Reports suggest a bad sporting and institutional situation of the team behind Ramos’ decision to leave.
