Sergio Ramos suffers calf injury, set to miss Champions league and El Clasico

Real Madrid have a crucial week coming up in their footballing calendar with 2 matches against Liverpool in the Champions league and the El Clasico in between. However, they will miss the services of club captain and defender Sergio Ramos as he has suffered a calf injury during his stay at the Spanish National team.

Real Madrid today released a statement which confirmed the captain’s club injury. The Spanish club did not give an estimate on how long Ramos would be sidelined, but the center back ruled himself out of the important matches.

Sergio Ramos who is a great fighter and always wants to play in the important games himself announced on his Instagram account that he would miss the important matches. Ramos was gutted to say the least and himself admitted to his poor luck with injuries in the last month.

“The truth is that I’ve had a tough few weeks,” Ramos wrote on Instagram.

Surgery is always a sporting and emotional break. Fortunately, for a few days now I’ve been feeling better but in football and in life, bad luck also plays a role. After yesterday’s game, I stayed on to do some work on the pitch and I felt a pinch in my left calf.”

“Today I underwent tests and it was confirmed that I have a muscle injury. What hurts most is not being able to help the team in these vital games of the season and not being able to give something back on the pitch for all the love and energy you send me.”

“All I can do is speak frankly, work hard and support the team with my soul.”

Real Madrid will have to rely on the combination of Raphael Varane and Nacho in the center of defence as they look build their La Liga and Champions league challenge this season.
