Serie A: Roma vs Fiorentina Player Ratings

Jose Mourinho’s Roma collect the spoils and are off to a winning start in the league as the home side beat Fiorentina 3-1 in an absolute end-to-end cracker in Stadio Olimpico. The match had its fair share of controversy as VAR was pivotal in decisions that all went Roma’s side. Roma started the first half well but lost the plot in between when Fiorentina put a lot of pressure, but new signing Tammy Abraham became the epicenter of the game as he not only got Dragowski off, but also set up Mkhitaryan for the opener.

The second half had even more drama as Fiorentina started really well and Zaniolo got his second yellow, making it 10 v 10 early in the second half. Just few minutes later, Milenkovic got the equalizer from a dead ball situation setting up a cracking game. But the scores were level only for 4 minutes, as Abraham set Veretout up for Roma’s second in the game. Veretout got his second against his former team which eventually sealed a very typical Jose Mourinho victory.

Player Ratings:

AS Roma

Rui Patricio: 8/10

Great league debut for Patricio as he made couple of amazing saves off Bonaventura and Vlahovic. A very dominant performance in the air adding to it.

Rick Karsdorp: 7/10

A very good outing for the right back as he burst into attacks a couple of times and made some good passes parallel to the touchline off through the wings.

Gianluca Mancini: 7/10

An absolutely solid performance at the back and well and truly deserved a clean sheet for the efforts. Mancini was dominant in the air too.

Roger Ibanez: 8/10

Ibanez read the game very well and won all the duels, passed the balls long accurately in a solid defensive performance.

Matias Vina: 5/10

Vina unfortunately was the only average player from this Roma side, and could have definitely done better on the ball and keeping it.

Bryan Cristante: 7/10

Cristante was absolutely dominant in the middle of the park, and also his progressive play with the ball was brilliant. Cristante also recovered the ball well from the Fiorentina midfield.

Jordan Veretout: 9/10

Engine of his team, Veretout was arguably one of the two Man of the Match contenders alongside Tammy. His burst of runs in the attack rewarded him with 2 gaols in the evening.

Lorenzo Pellegrini: 7/10

Pellegrini put a captain’s performance as his direct style of play got the team running in the second half.

Nicolo Zaniolo: 4/10

A quiet first half and a terrible start to the second half as Zaniolo was off after two careless fouls getting two yellow cards in both halves.

Henrik Mkhitaryan: 7/10

Mkhitaryan got the first goal of the season but apart from it, he had a silent evening and also gave the ball away few times.

Tammy Abraham: 9/10

A definite Man of the Match contender alongside Veretout as Tammy had a dream debut for Roma. Two assists, a header off the bar and getting a player sent off, he was the center of everything.

Substitutes

Eldor Shomurodov: 7/10

Great assist in the goal that sealed the victory for Roma, as he picked the baton from Tammy right after getting subbed on.

Bartlomiej Dragowski: 3/10

Only played 19 minutes as his reckless challenge on Tammy got himself off the field, although the red card could be termed controversial.

Lorenzo Venuti: 4/10

A very poor performance from the Fiorentina full back as two of the three Roma goals came from his side of the pitch.

Nikola Milenkovic: 7/10

Milenkovic looked like the only positive from this Fiorentina performance as he not only got the goal but also won a lot of duels.

Igor: 6/10

A day to forget for Igor as he not only lost balls due to poor passes, but also looked really lazy in the whole of the evening.

Cristiano Biraghi: 7/10

Biraghi had an amazing first half being busy in the final third of the pitch, but an contrasting second half defending the Roma counters.

Erick Pulgar: 8/10

Arguably the best player wearing violet on the field as he was the anchor in the middle of the park. His amazing ball gave Fiorentina the equalizer.

Giacomo Bonaventura: 5/10

A very poor performance from Bonaventura considering his experience of the game in Italy as he dropped a show that was not at all convincing.

Youssef Maleh: 5/10

A very silent game for Maleh as he was subbed off at half time after hardly getting the ball in the first half.

Jose Callejon: 5/10

Unlucky evening for Callejon as he was tagged the sacrificial lamb to make way for the backup keeper after just 9 touches on the ball.

Nico Gonzalez: 7/10

A performance of good work rate on and off the ball from Gonzalez as he was always trying to get something in the attack. Every attack from the away side ran through him.

Dusan Vlahovic: 6/10

Frustrating evening for their star-man as Vlahovic tried a lot but it was not his night and he did not have much support too.

Substitutes

Pietro Terracciano: 6/10

It is always a tough night for any keeper coming in when their side is a man down but Terracciano got two good saves to impress his manager.

Gaetano Castrovilli: 6/10

Castrovilli was a great improvement on Maleh in the second half as he pushed the team a lot by pressing Roma and was instrumental in the phase when they got the goal.

Marco Benassi: 5/10

Benassi added nothing to the side coming on as he had an disappointing outing yet again.
