AC Milan got their Serie A campaign to a winning start with a functional 1-0 win over Sampdoria. Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the game early in the match, and MIlan sustained pressure throughout before eventually sealing the three points. In a frenetic end to end encounter, Mikan showed great defensive resilience and come up with the win.

Mike Maignan – 8/10 – Signed from Lille, Maignan has big shoes to fill with Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure. The Frenchman gave a good account of himself making some excellent stops and was certainly one of the key reasons why the Rossoneri could clinch three points.
Davide Calabria – 7/10 – Captain of the side, Calabria showed his class as he bombarded the right flank and eventually grabbed the assist for the goal in a solid performance.
Simon Kjaer – 6/10 – Sampdoria targeted him in the air, but Kjaer stood his ground and kept an important clean sheet in the first away game of the season. .
Fikayo Tomori – 7/10 – The ex-Chelsea man showcased why Milan paid the big bucks to make the move permanent. Blessed with great recovery pace and skill, Tomori was always ay the right place at the right time for Stefano Piloi’s side.
Theo Hernandez – 6/10 – A menace down the flank, but Sampdoria did question his defensive liabilities on Monday night.
Alexis Saelemaekers – 6/10 – Combined well with Calabria providing him the space and opportunity to make drafting runs at the opposition.
Sandro Tonali – 6/10 – Was caught out while defending multiple times but was excellent in possession. Also made a vital late block to ensure Milan’s lead.
Rade Krunic – 7/10 – A very positive performance with several interceptions and blocks, unlucky not to score.
Rafael Leao – 6/10 – The Portuguese youngster was certainly a goal threat and forced multiple saves from Sampdoria’s keeper, but did not have the end product on Monday.
Brahim Diaz – 8/10 – Diaz showcased why Milan rate him highly and will be expected to take over Hakan Calhanoglu’s mantle.
Olivier Giroud – 6/10 – Did not make much of an impression, but was an option for Milan to reach out to and build play from.

Emil Audero (7/10) – Did a fair enough job between the sticks. Will be disappointing to let Diaz’s goal slip.
Bartosz Bereszynski (7/0) – Solid at the back and kept Raphel Leao from imposing himself into the game.
Maya Yoshida (7/10) – Was efficient in nullifying threats and ensured Milan did not run away with the game.
Omar Colley (7/10) – Like Yoshida, Colley had a good game, keeping Olivier Giroud quiet on his Serie A debut.
Tommaso Augello (6/10) – Struggled to keep up with Calabria and Saelemakers and had a day to forget.
Morten Thorsby (7/10) – Good solid game in the centre of midfield, winning back and recycling possession. Had Tonali and Krunic in trouble at times.
Albin Ekdal (8/10) – Starred in midfield and was really lively in carrying the ball. Sampdoria’s best performer.
Antonio Candreva (8/10) – Was a menace down the right, keeping Theo Hernandez in check, exposing his frailties time and again.
Manolo Gabbiadini (6/10) – Former Southampton man had a game to forget as he couldn’t convert any of his chances.
Mikel Damsgaard (7/10) – Was lively and almost equalised for Sampdoria, in another impressive stint for the Euro 2020 starlet.
Fabio Quagliarella (6/10) – Failed to make Milan pay and will be rueing their missed chances after a 1-0 loss.
