Serie A: Torino Vs Atalanta Player Ratings as Atalanta’s late goal creates heartbreak for Torino

Torino vs Atalanta

Here are the Player Ratings for the Serie A fixture between Torino and Atalanta.

Atalanta and Torino started off their season at the Olympic Grande Torino Stadium on Saturday with a 2-1 win for Atalanta. After a terrific season in 2020 where they finished third, Atalanta have started in a good fashion. Torino, on the other hand, had finished 16th last year and had a decent game to start off, despite result not being on their favour.

Muriel put the ball in the nets in the 6th minute giving Atalanta the lead. But the possession remained more or less equal for both sides till half-time. Torino did well to stop the attack from Atalanta on multiple occasions, and also created a number of chances and finally scored the equaliser in the 79th minute. Belotti, who came in as a substitute for Sanabria, gave the home side a sigh of relief with a terrific shot into the goal. However, Piccoli put the ball in the nets in the 93rd minute to hand Torino a heartbreak, who had fought valiantly till then.

Let us quickly dive into how the players of both teams performed:

Torino

Andrea Belotti
Andrea Belotti has been Torino’s star striker for some seasons now

Vanja Milinković-Savić (GK) (3/10): Savic had an average game where he conceded 2 goals. He was caught off-guard a number of times but was shielded by the terrific defence.

Koffi Djidji (7.5/10): Djidji and his fellow defenders were the stars of the night despite finishing on the losing side. The defender made sure Atalanta did not get enough chances to put the ball in the nets and pressed hard against the attackers.

Gleison Bremer (7/10): Bremmer had a good game and managed to block the opposition attack from creating enough chances. He had a superb impact on the game, playing a key role in restricting the otherwise aggressive Atalanta attack.

Ricardo Rodriguez (7/10): Rodriguez had a great outing as he managed to press the strong Atalanta attack and made sure they did not easily penetrate into the defence. With 2 successful tackles and multiple clever passing, Rodriguez had a good game.

Wilfried Singo (3/10): Singo was one of the weakest links across both sides on field today. Apart from the 3 blocks, Singo did not have much impact and also lost the possession too easily at times.

Saša Lukić (5/10): The Serbian international had a rather quiet game and did not have much impact on the game. Also, he was substituted in the half time and hence did not get enough game time.

Rolando Mandragora (7.5/10): Mandragora had a good game as far as passing is concerned. He made sure Torino had the ball with them and make the most of it without losing it easily. He made 2 terrific crosses too, but those were not converted to goals by his side. Overall, a good outing to start the season for him.

Ola Aina (5/10): The Torino midfielder had a quiet game without much impact, apart from the 88% passing accuracy in the final third and his 2 successful interceptions.

Karol Linetty (7/10): Linetty created as many as 4 chances and assisted the only goal for the home side. He made sure the opposition defence is under constant pressure with his clever positioning and speed.

Marko Pjaca (5/10): Pjaca had a rather average outing where he did not have much impact and could have done better in the midfield. He was substituted in the 74th minute.

Antony Sanabria (7/10): Sanabria, the Paraguay striker, made a few attempts at giving his side the equaliser, but failed to convert any on. He had 3 shots on target and a few penetrations into the Atalanta defence till he was substituted by Belotti.

Substitutes:

Andrea Belotti (9.5/10): The Italian striker came in as a substitute for Sanabria and had a terrific game. Belotti put pressure on the Atalanta defence on a consistent basis, getting the better of them more often than not. He gave his side the equaliser in the 79th minute and made sure the home side stayed in contention till the end.

Atalanta

Torino vs Atalanta
Atalanta

Juan Musso (GK) (8/10): Musso was having a great game, making a number of impressive saves till the home side managed to score an equaliser in the fag end of the game. Overall, a good outing for the Atalanta goal-keeper.

Merih Demiral (5/10): The Turkey international had an average outing, performing way below his best and not being able to press the Torino attack enough. Overall, Demiral did find it difficult to hold on to the possession and make it count for his side.

Berat Djimsiti (4/10): Djimsiti more or less underperformed as compared to his performances in recent years. The Atalanta defence was not at its best and so was Djimsiti. Though he made 6 successful aerial duels, Djimsiti was quite inaccurate in his passing.

José Luis Palomino (6/10): Palomino was the best of the lot from the Atalanta defenders. He made as many as 4 good blocks and 13 aerial duels. But overall, there was a lot to be improved from him as far as pressing the opposition attack is concerned.

Matteo Pessina (3.5/10): Pessina had a quiet game and could not make much of the ball he got in the midfield.

Mario Pašalić (6.5/10): Pasalic had an average game with just 2 tackles and 2 blocks throughout the game till he created a chance and assisted Piccoli in scoring the winning goal in the 93rd minute.

Joakim Mæhle (4/10): The midfielder Joakim failed to create much impact in the game and had an average outing, which he will definitely like to improve in the coming games.

Robin Gosens (6/10): Robert Gosens would have expected a better start to the season for him. Apart from a few penetrations into the Torino defence here and there, the German international did not have much say in the game.

Josip Iličić (6.5/10): Ilicic had a decent game where he created a couple of chances out of which one got converted to a goal. He did not have much say in the game apart form that and surely was not at his best.

Ruslan Malinovskiy (3/10): Malinovskiy had a rather quiet game to start the season. He could not create any impact in the game and had a disappointing outing and got substituted in the 76th minute.

Luis Fernando Muriel Fruto (9/10): The Colombian striker had a great game, being the lone goal scorer in the game. He was on fire with his speed and put the Torino defence on pressure consistently. Along with 2 shots on goal, Muriel also made 3 successful take-ons.

Substitutes

Atalanta

Roberto Piccoli (9/10): The Atalanta striker made an impact almost immediately with a goal in the 93rd minute. He came in to replace Gosens in the 83rd minute and his goal made sure Atalanta start the season with a win.
