In Short
  • Seth Rollins criticized the Chicago Bears' potential move to Indiana, calling it a "PR stunt."
  • The Bears are seeking $850 million in public funding for infrastructure in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
  • Indiana lawmakers have proposed support for the Bears if they decide to relocate, raising concerns in Illinois.

After posting the first meaningful postseason run in a decade, QB Caleb Williams and team superfan Seth Rollins might be looking at a future in which the Bears in Chicago might not exist.

It so happens that the organization has been trying hard to get the state of Illinois to give them $850 million in public funding to help with ‘essential local infrastructure’ around a 326-acre property in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The Bears need the influx of infrastructure development, as the property they purchased back in 2021 would move them away from the city’s downtown.

They have committed $2 billion of their own money to build the stadium and move into it once their lease with Soldier Field ends in 2033. However, the state has yet to agree, and now Indiana has jumped in with a proposal.

There’s no way, c’mon. Can you imagine it, the Gary Bears? Come on. Get out of here. That’s a PR stunt. There’s no way… They’re not leaving Illinois. There’s no chance.

This was WWE superstar and avid football aficionado Seth Rollins, who does not believe in the efforts from both the Chicago Bears and the State of Indiana to come to an agreement.

When host Shannon Sharpe reminded him that the Kansas City Chiefs issued similar threats and then eventually would move from Missouri to Kansas, Rollins admitted. But then mentioned that their name does not change. In the Bears’ situation, their entire history will take a hit if this happens.

Indiana has laid out the red carpet for Chicago Bears to leave Illinois

When the Chicago Bears purchased the property in Arlington Heights, their fans believed that it was confirmation that they would stay in the state forever.

However, the state’s officials are still around $100 million apart when it comes to agreeing on public funding for the infrastructure around this proposed dome stadium.

On the other hand, as per ESPN, Indiana lawmakers unanimously approved an amendment to their State Bill 27 that would essentially help the Bears get a lot of support if the franchise were to move to Wolf Lake.

For Indiana, this move will make sense, as the proposed site is just 25 minutes from Soldier Field, making it easy for the state to generate wads of revenue from its neighbors. If they move, the state of Illinois will lose its biggest sports franchise. The Bears do not seem concerned with that, as the short distance and proximity to everything in Chicago make it sensible.

That said, Illinois lawmakers will not stop without giving it a fight, as they know this will backfire badly if one of the major sources of employment in the state moves elsewhere.

Seth Rollins has high praise for Caleb Williams and his Bears

For lifelong fan Seth Rollins, it would be unthinkable for him if the Chicago Bears were to move to Indiana and have their name changed. Even though he believes there is a slim chance of that happening, what he is sure about is their future performances.

They’ve got a QB and a coach. You see, the modern NFL, that is the recipe for success… The Bears to win the North this year was huge.

He brought up references to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, and then Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid as the recipe that drives teams toward success. Rollins believes that as long as both Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson stay together, the offense has the chance to do something that no one thought they would.

The WWE superstar felt that last season was just the duo scratching the surface of what is possible, even going on to suggest that a Super Bowl is achievable.
