A slight miscue while crashing into the mat a couple of months ago put Seth Rollins on the shelf. He must be ruing the day he decided to perform a coast-to-coast headbutt on Cody Rhodes, who was hung upside down in a corner. In the aftermath of the botched sequence, Rollins ended up suffering a torn rotator cuff for which he underwent surgery.

The former Vision leader recently joined the Games with Names podcast, where he discussed what was going on in his head from the point he abruptly landed on his left shoulder. As Rollins described it, he landed hard on his left elbow and jolted it up into the shoulder. ‘The Visionary’ knew it was gone the moment he crash-landed.

Fortunately, I was able to get through everything……..And I don’t know that I did any more damage than the rotator. It’s about a six month recovery. So, we’ll see how it goes. It was really tender and it was starting to get worse as the match was going on. And it was… Is it stupidity or is it courageousness? I don’t know. I mean, where’s the line?

However, that wasn’t his primary concern as the match was ongoing, and he was only asking himself if he’d be able to pull himself over the finish line. For those wondering about that Cross Rhodes from the top rope, which rocked Rollins and almost fetched ‘The American Nightmare’ the win, it was a scary maneuver to roll into as his shoulders bore the brunt of it.

Rollins, however, had his defense mechanism locked in as he tucked it tight before the landing and couldn’t tell if Rhodes’ finisher exacerbated his injury beyond the rotator cuff or not. He didn’t know whether it courageous or stupid on his part to carry on the way he did citing there’s no such yardstick to know it. Last month, ‘The Architect’ said on Bert Kreischer’s podcast that he’d get rid of the cast somewhere in December.

It’ll be followed by a brief period of no physical activity at all until he locks back in and starts training for his in-ring return. Rollins was hopeful of resuming his road to regaining pre-injury body shape around February 2026, which would leave a 2-month window for the Iowa native to make it just in time for WrestleMania 42. Recent reports stated that WWE has yet to finalize its main events for WrestleMania due to Rollins’ case being in flux.

Seth Rollins talks about WWE envisioning a John Cena-level role for Cody Rhodes prior to his WWE return

During the aforementioned conversation, Seth Rollins talked about WWE’s desires behind bringing Cody Rhodes back to the company in 2022. ‘The Drip God’ praised his arch-rival for gaining an undeniable stature during the time he was away from WWE since he got fired back in 2016. Rollins admitted that the top brass of WWE didn’t view Rhodes as a main-event caliber star around 8-9 years ago.

However, that sentiment had taken a complete flip after Rhodes excelled on the indies and the run he had with All Elite Wrestling. ‘The Architect’ said that WWE was looking to groom ‘The American Nightmare’ as a John Cena-level kind of act when the company officials had locked Rhodes down to a multi-year deal.

Rollins also revealed that he wasn’t made aware about wrestling Rhodes at WrestleMania 38 until almost a month prior to the event. But the return of Rhodes, who in Corey Graves‘ words went from undesirable to undeniable, continues to have its ripple effects on the business as a whole. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes had a trilogy of matches in 2022, all of which went Rhodes’ way.

Even though every one of their in-ring encounters was distinct in itself, what they achieved inside Hell in a Cell remains unmatched. Heading into it, Rhodes had torn his pectoral muscle, but he insisted on having the match after convincing the people in charge that it couldn’t have gotten worse. Rollins had the onus of being calculative and reserved in his movements as he was going up against an already banged-up opponent.

‘The QB1’ didn’t let the injury dictate the brutality of the match as he went through some tormenting spots during the course of it. ‘The Visionary’ doubled down on the heat he was getting from the fans, and that gruesome black and blue spot around Rhodes’ upper chest only made the job easier for Rollins. The latter still ended up losing the match to hand his seriously injured foe a win that received massive acclaim from wrestling critics and fans worldwide.
