Isaiah Stewart and Detroit Pistons brawled with Minnesota Timberwolves players

Whenever a random basketball fan hears the name Isaiah Stewart, they are reminded of the viral sequence where the bleeding Detroit Pistons star tried to rush back to confront LeBron James. That and a few incidents later, he has earned the reputation as an enforcer.

Recently, he went viral for the wrong reasons when Zion Williamson threw down a two-handed poster slam. But despite that, he is still known to be one of the better defenders in the league. He is also the one that sets the tone on the interior.

In today’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Stewart’s tried to set the tone early on with his constant bumps against Wolves players. Around eight and half minutes were left in the second quarter and Timberwolves star Naz Reid saw the lane was open and dribbled towards it.

Rookie Ron Holland was called for a reach-in foul, but how Reid reacted, altered the course of the game. He instantly argued with Holland pointing fingers right into his face which ticked the Pistons rookie. Wolves guard Donte DiVincenzo tried to calm Holland down, but all of that arguing led to a shoving match.

DiVincenzo started by shoving Ron Holland, then Holland shoved him back. Then Naz Reid tried to do the same and it looked like he swung a fist. Then as the trio went crashing into the stands, other Pistons and Timberwolves players joined in, and unsurprisingly, Isaiah Stewart was one of them.

Officials ejected Detroit Pistons’ Ron Holland, Isaiah Stewart, and Marcus Sasser along with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo. Along with them, officials gave Pistons HC JB Bickerstaff and Wolves assistant Pablo Prigioni their marching orders.

Isaiah Stewart and others could face suspension

If one analyses the brawl footage, some things are instantly clear. The shoving that started it all was not necessary. Along with that, the involvement of this many players and staff indicates the brawl was that intensive.

Scratch marks on Donte DiVincenzo’s neck indicate someone’s hand was on his throat. There is no doubt that the NBA will have a team of officials carefully dissect every single pixel in those clippings to figure out what exactly happened.
