The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to happen in Pakistan in 2025. However, it is not sure whether Pakistan will be able to organize the whole tournament on their home soil. As per reports, India will not get the permission from their government to travel to Pakistan. Hence, BCCI will ask the ICC to host the Champions Trophy as per the hybrid model with India’s matches either in Sri Lanka or in the UAE.

Former Pakistan cricketer, Shahid Afridi, has meanwhile sent a message to the BCCI and the Indian government. He stated that Pakistan also had information about threats in India to the Pakistani players, but the Men in Green still traveled to India. He took a dig at the BCCI and said that Pakistan will come to know about the intentions of the BCCI and the Indian government if Team India doesn’t travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

We have gone to India so many times in difficult situations. We got threats and still went to India. We will get to know their intention. We have always supported India. We got threats but the Pakistan Cricket Board and government always took the initiative. If they want to come, they will come. If they do not want to come, they will use security as an excuse.

Team India did not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 as well and the tournament was held as per the hybrid model with India’s matches and the final in Sri Lanka.

India have not played bilateral series with Pakistan since 2013

Team India last toured Pakistan in 2006. The last bilateral series that was played between the two countries was in 2012-13 when Pakistan toured India. The stance of the Indian government is clear- till Pakistan stops funding cross-border terrorism, India will not engage in bilateral series with Pakistan or travel to Pakistan for any cricket match.

India have only engaged with Pakistan in ICC tournaments and that too on either neutral venues or in India. Pakistan traveled to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup and also during the ODI World Cup 2023.

There have been a lot of reports regarding the future of Champions Trophy. This time around, PCB does not want to bog down infront of BCCI and accept a hybrid model. It remains to be seen what surfaces in the upcoming days.
