Shai Gilgeous Alexander Hands Oklahoma City Thunder with First Win of the Season

Lakers vs Thunder

Shai Gilgeous Alexander

Oklahoma City Thunder played their first game of the 2020-21 season against the Charlotte Hornets. Wherein Shai Gilgeous Alexander handed the away side the victory with a clutch 2-pointer with just over 1 second remaining in the game. Miles Bridges seemed to have scored the winner for Charlotte Hornets with a 23-foot 3-pointer. But Alexander wasn’t having none of it. Surprisingly Alexander went onto score the last 4 points for OKC.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander was just short of a double-double with 24 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Whereas George Hill also turned up the heat for the away side, scoring 21 points. Hill’s shooting from downtown also had 100% accuracy with 4 in 4 attempts. Also, Mike Muscala played a key role form the bench for OKC, scoring 14 points

“Obviously the last two minutes was a weird experience, an emotional experience,” said head coach Mark Daigneault, who picked up his first win as an NBA head coach. “But we played a 48-minute game and our guys did a really good job of that.”

Head coach Mark Daigneault called that notion “hindsight bias” while acknowledging his team can improve in its late-game situations.

“We have great players on this team. It’s an experience we can learn from … There’s things that we could’ve done better down the stretch, and you give Charlotte credit — they played all the way through the finish line tonight, and it just goes to show what happens when you do that,” Daigneault said.

“But we’ll learn from it. I’m confident in the guys we have this year on this team and our ability to do those things. We could’ve handled it better tonight. But hopefully we learn from it.”
