If it’s any consolation, the Chicago Bears have started start their season with a win, but the team has a lot to clean up if they are to progress going forward. The offensive line and rookie QB Caleb Williams will need to step up their performance following a dismal display in the first game against the Tennessee Titans.

The Bears came from behind to defeat the Titans, but no thanks to the offensive line. The defense and the special teams picked up extra efforts, leading the win for the Chicago outfit. The No. 1 Draft Pick Williams seemed sporadic throughout the game, completing just 14 of 29 passes for 93 yards.

A certain statistic showed that Williams is the second QB in modern NFL history to attempt 25 or more passes while managing less than 100 yards. He had a passer rating of 55.7 and got sacked twice, aiding the Titans’ to kill drives. The Bears offense overall added up just 148 yards with no TDs to their name.

Williams didn’t seem like a hyped-up quarterback who’s all perfect, the same intensity he displayed in the camp and preseason games. He didn’t seem like the young gun once compared to Patrick Mahomes. He was just a rookie QB who was trying to figure out through the pressures of his debut game. In the post-game conference, Williams arrived in a white tee to take the questions fielded by the reporters.

He admitted that there are avenues he will need to work on, and he is bothered too much by the statistics. He admitted that his game is not where he thought it would be, but he wants to concentrate on the team as a whole and that the results are what matters.

I’ll be honest with you, I feel great. I understand that, obviously, the stats weren’t where I want them to be and things like that because I want to go out there and perform to the best of my ability. I didn’t do that today. We’re going to get better tomorrow. We're going to be better next week.
Caleb Williams said in the post-game conference

Clearly, Williams has a lot to build on. He is not anymore in college football. This is the NFL with tough defenders and much better line-ups. Despite the gloomy stats and unsatisfying win, Williams did record his name in the history books. He became the first QB No. 1 pick to win his debut match since David Carr in 2002. He also became the first rookie QB from the Bears to achieve this feat since 1950.

Bears built in a way to allow Caleb Williams to find pace without pressure

The Bears GM Ryan Poles has constructed the roster in such a way that the young QB can find his own pace. Williams can become the projected super icon for the Bears without feeling the added pressure on his shoulders.

The team can perform without Williams bringing out his extra A game every week. The roster is designed to support a rookie quarterback’s growth and development, even during challenges. The passing defense showed up spectacularly when they needed it. Similarly, the special teams also showed some classy play in the win against the Titans.

The Bears have high hopes going forward this season. They would love to bid adieu to the losing record that’s been haunting them for the past three seasons. There’s a depth in the roster that has the potential to bring this dream to reality as much as there are holes. The Bears play Houston Texans next where an exciting match-up between CJ Stroud and Williams awaits the fans.
