Shakib Al Hasan has denied any gulf with fellow Bangladeshi cricketer Tamim Iqbal. In his words, it is BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon’s words that has created the rift between two of the most seasoned players for Bangladesh.

The former Bangladesh skipper pointed out that he was always in talking terms with Tamim. In an interview with Cricbuzz in February 2023, BCB president highlighted the fact that the environment in the Bangladesh dressing room was not one that the team can be proud of and the poster boy of the unhealthy atmosphere was none other than a gulf between Shakib and Tamim.

He also shared that he had tried to sort things out and it seemed then that the relationship was beyond repairs.

In what would sound like an explosive statement that came on a documentary shown by Bongo, Shakib al Hasan has gone all guns blazing against Papon, claiming the fact that there was no rift whatsoever between him and Tamim.

This thing [the relationship between Tamim and Shakib] came to focus after Papon [Nazmul Hasan] bhai spoke about it and it created a lot of problems in the relationship and created this situation. I think some people had the intention to keep it [the rift] in focus and tried to make it the main point [of discussion] rather than the cricketing side. For quite some time we were not talking a lot. [But] it is not right that we were not on talking terms.
Shakib Al Hasan said in the documentary

The 37-year-old all-rounder also claimed that their marriages eventually meant that they were not spending enough time together but then that was no factor whatsoever in a strained relationship. Citing the physical distance after their respective marriages, Shakib pointed out that it is something very normal.

Just ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India, Tamim Iqbal had his relations with BCB under the scanner as he refused to bat down the order. Pertaining to this incident, Shakib also labeled Tamim as childish for not adjusting himself to the needs of the team.
