NBA champion reveals WILD stray from rapper J Cole
Shane Battier claimed that the kids either knew him from NBA 2k or the J Cole song.
J Cole, Shane Battier
Former NBA swingman Shane Battier has made a name for himself as one of the legendary players in the league. However, since none is without critics, Battier found one in rapper J Cole as the latter seemingly dissed the former. Battier narrates the incident as the two come face to face a decade later.
As the dust settled, turned out J Cole was never a critic of Shane Battier as the former power forward caught a stray. In a recent appearance on the “Glue Guys” podcast, Battier reflected that the kids either knew him from NBA 2k or the J Cole song.
Elaborating on the lyrics, he echoed how the rapper called him ‘lame’ in one of his songs from his debut album “Cole World: The Sideline Story.” Cut to 2024, Battier and Cole bumped into each other in a Miami restaurant where the last-mentioned wanted to apologize for his lyrics. The Grammy Award-winning artist offered his regrets, as Battier reassured him of knowing the music scene was harsh.
Funnily, the NBA champ had presumed that the rapper was an upset North Carolina Tar Heels fan, the team Battier beat often. He further reasoned with the lyric that he probably was lame. Additionally, the kids caught on to the ‘lame’ tag surfacing on social media and called him that.

Regardless, Battier did not care. Contradictorily, he appreciated Cole’s humility in apologizing after all those years. The former Miami Heat forward averaged 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in a span of his 13 NBA seasons. He won back-to-back championships with the team in 2012 and 2013 before retiring the next year.
