Shane Lowry added another hole-in-one to his career resume. During the third round of the Masters Tournament, he carded his 2nd ace at the famous Augusta National Golf Club.
10 years ago, in the 2016 event, a then-29-year-old Lowry made a hole-in-one while using an 8-iron at the par-3 16th hole in the final tournament. That day, he jumped up to 2nd in the standings with an 8-under par score following the iconic moment.
A decade later, he made another ace in this major tournament. After a birdie on the 2nd hole, the Irishman was 1-under par for the day and was looking for a low score. Following pars on holes 3, 4 and 5, he arrived at the par-3 6th hole.
Using a 7-iron this time from 190 yards out, the 39-year-old’s shot would stay right on the line and roll into the hole. The patrons in the course would erupt in joy as the golfer celebrated wildly and even hugged his playing partner and Ryder Cup teammate, Tommy Fleetwood.

Just a couple of weeks back, he had made an ace at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. This hole-in-one had come at the par-3 Hole 2 at the Memorial Park Golf Course.
Following the round on Saturday, the former Open Championship winner dropped an epic 4-word answer to explain his reaction to his 2nd ace at the Masters Tournament.
Maybe I’m just good.

This is the first ace at the Masters Tournament since 2022. Stewart Cink was the last one before Lowry to make a hole-in-one in this event. Overall, it is the 35th ace in Masters history.

Lowry’s other two aces have come on famous sites. He hit a hole-in-one at the par-3 7th hole at Pebble Beach during the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. That same day, his best friend, Rory McIlroy, also made a hole-in-one.
Before this, he had made an ace at the iconic par-3 17th hole at the TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship in 2022.

Shane Lowry gets back into contention at 2026 Masters following ace in third round
The moving day lived up to its name on Saturday at the Augusta National as several golfers made a huge jump in the standings. Shane Lowry was one of them. Following his 2nd ace in this event, he got back into contention for the title.

Before the round began, defending champion Rory McIlroy had a 6-shot lead over the chasing pack. While the others made a move in the third round, the 5-time major champion stumbled a bit.
McIlroy’s 1-over 73 score on Saturday saw him lose his huge lead. Lowry, who had carded a score of 69 on Friday, did one better the following day.
After making the hole-in-one, Lowry birdied the 8th before bogeying the 9th hole. He started the second nine with a birdie and a bogey on holes 10 and 11, respectively. His 4th birdie on the day came at the par-4 14th hole.
He eventually wrapped up the round with a 4-under par score. At the end of the day, Lowry was 9-under par in the tournament, 2 shots behind co-leaders McIlroy and Cameron Young. This means that the 3-time PGA Tour winner will be in the penultimate group with Sam Burns on Sunday.

A victory on Sunday would be Lowry’s biggest win of his career. He has not tasted singles’ success on the PGA Tour since his 2019 Open Championship triumph.
Last month, he seemed to be on his way to victory at the Cognizant Classic. However, he imploded in the final stages and made back-to-back double bogeys at holes 16 and 17 and went on to finish 2 strokes behind the winner, Nico Echavarria.
