In the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Shane Lowry went face to face with his Ryder Cup teammate, Rory McIlroy. During this, he had a moment to forget as one of his shot knocked down a volunteer at the greens.

The incident is reported to have taken place when at the 15th hole. At this moment, Lowry was 17-under for the tournament and was three strokes behind McIlroy for the first spot.

Lowry was trying to hit a good tee shot at the par 5 15th hole as he tried to close down the gap between him and his Zurich Classic of New Orleans partner. The tracker would display an apex of 92 feet after Lowry shot his ball in the air.

Unfortunately, the ball would go on and hit a volunteer who was the greens. The man wearing a blue shirt was later seen crouching down on the ground after the unexpected impact from Lowry’s ball.

The Irish golfer was able to save par from this shot. A while later, the broadcasting team confirmed that the volunteer was okay and doing good.

This is not the first time, someone has been hit on the golf course after a poor shot this year. At the Sony Open in Hawaii, Hideki Matsuyama would lose control of his club. It would later knock down a spectator who was watching the action unfold nearby.

Last year at the Augusta National, even golf great Tiger Woods found himself in trouble. The 5-time Masters champion shot would hit a patron, leaving them knocked out.

Golfers are usually encouraged to shout “Fore” as a warning to others about a dangerous shout. Lowry probably forget to do this at the Pebble Beach on Sunday, which led to some wild reactions from fans across social media.

Shane Lowry claims he wasn’t good enough to beat Rory McIlroy at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Despite a strong performance from Shane Lowry, it was not enough to seal the deal on Sunday. The 37-year-old shot scores of 66, 70, 65 and 68 in his four rounds to finish 19-under for the tournament. After the event, he claimed he wasn’t good enough to beat Rory McIlroy.

Coincidentally, McIlroy and Lowry both shot the same scores in the first three rounds. This meant that they were tied through the 54 holes.

The difference came in the front nine. While McIlroy finished the front nine with 1-under par, Lowry finished 2-over par with a score of 37. The bogeys at the 6th and 8th hole cost him the title.

I’m happy enough with my week. I think we play at this level, especially when you’re in the position I was in today, you play to win, you don’t play to finish second… But the way he was playing today, I certainly wasn’t good enough to beat him.

Lowry took home $2.1 million from the $20 million purse prize from this signature event. He would now be hoping to continue this form and do one better in his next start on the PGA Tour.
