Several rumors floating around the internet over the past few weeks suggest that Shane McMahon will soon be debuting in AEW. It is unclear if this appearance would come as a wrestler, an authority figure, or perhaps even a backstage role. Regardless, rumors of him joining hands with the Jacksonville-based company have magnified since he was spotted with Mercedes Mone. 

PWInsider reported that McMahon was spotted alongside the AEW TBS Champion in New York. They were seen talking to each other at the LaGuardia airport as they headed to their respective flights. Mercedes Mone recently competed at the Forbidden Door PPV, held in New York. It is assumed that this conversation took place after the show, when she was heading out of the city.

A source even confirmed that the two had a conversation about AEW. Mone has recently talked about how happy she is to be in the company and that she even has creative control. This could perhaps be an attempt to convince Shane’o’Mac to join her. Besides, there are already reports of the 54-year-old reaching out to several members of the AEW roster to discuss his debut in the company.

Amidst the speculation, many fans speculated that McMahon would show up at the Forbidden Door PPV. The rumors flared up even more when people spotted him in New York on the same weekend as the show. Alas, there was no appearance from the former WWE star at the show, and it is unclear when he would join the company, if ever.

Former WWE star and politician Matt Morgan claims Shane McMahon won’t be a draw for AEW

Speaking on the Gigantic Pop, Matt Morgan discussed the rumors of Shane McMahon going to AEW. The former WWE star claimed that Shane was actually the good McMahon. However, he believed that there was not much that the wrestling promotion could do with him.

The deputy mayor of Longwood mentioned that McMahon was no longer fit to wrestle on a weekly basis. Even if he did so occasionally, it would only be for one night. This would not make him a regular draw for the company. He suggested using the 54-year-old in a creative role. In fact, even a role as a General Manager would suit him highly.

AEW has repeatedly signed some of the biggest free agents in the world. Mercedes Mone, Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada are some of the most recent examples of this fact. However, these big signings have not helped them with their viewership. The ratings for AEW Dynamite continue to drop rapidly, with the most recent episodes being in the range of 600,000 viewers.
