NASCAR has long been looking for a true international racing star that can help them expand their market and they got exactly that with Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen. The three times Supercars champion became part of stock car racing legacy when he won the inaugural Chicago Street Race, on his debut as part of Project 91.

Since them, he made a permanent move to US, spend one full-time season with Kulig in the Xfinity Series, dominating road course races and in his Cup debut in 2025 won five road course events making history. At the moment there is no one capable of outpacing Shane van Gisbergen in no-oval events and it all started with the excitement he got racing at Chicago as well as later at IRP.

When I did that Chicago race, I had no intention of coming over here. And yeah, obviously it went very well… I enjoyed that weekend so much. I was really sick, I remember, for the cup race, but I really loved the truck race at IRP and just how fun it was.

Shane van Gisbergen said via SiriusXM NASCAR radio.

The performance on debut inspired Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks to make huge offer to the Kiwi, a multi-year NASCAR contract with a clear pathway to the top. He took the opportunity with both hands as according to him; it was no brainer decisions and asserted that he got many more years to give back to the sport.

It’s been awesome. I’ve loved every moment and loved the challenge and so happy when Justin [Marks, team owner] offered to extend, it was a bit of a no brainer. Like, I can see myself here for a lot more years to come.

Shane van Gisbergen added.

The decision demanded his full commitment and uprooting his life across the pacific. For a driver that was in his mod-30s it was a huge task. But he overcame the pressure with passion, hunger and confidence as he knows being a racer he got more shelf life that other athletes from different sports.

It was hard moving across other sides of the world and starting a career again at a pretty old age, I guess, for doing that. But thankfully as a race car driver, we’ve got a pretty long shelf life.

Shane van Gisbergen asserted.

Jesse Love is racing is Supercars because of Shane van Gisbergen

The move from Shane van Gisbergen not only influenced a generation of Supercars racers who now has a new pathway that could earn them more success, but helped NASCAR drivers looking for new opportunity, challenges and learning experience. One of them is RCR driver Jesse Love, who recently made his Super 2 Series debut, as he is looking to learn the SVG magic.

So, when me and Shane got close and we became good friends, we started looking into it and I thought it looked like so much fun. More importantly, I thought there was so much for me to learn here, and the stuff that Shane does is like magic. If I can go over there and trial by fire, get my butt kicked, and learn some of that magic that Shane has, it will be huge experience for me.

Jesse Love said.

The Kiwi perfected his road course racing skills in Supercars Series and in order to beat him, the NASCAR driver has to learn the SVG way. The reigning Xfinity Series champion Jesse Love knows it and that’s why he is racing in the second division, with the hopes of learning more when he gets eligible to race in the first division of the series.
