Australian all-rounder Shane Watson announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has officially declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. A day after reports claiming the same flooded social media, Watson released a video to officially announce his retirement. The big Aussie allrounder had retired from international cricket back in 2016 but was still active in franchise cricket.
Watson took to Twitter to express his gratitude towards the cricketing community as he moves on to the “closing chapter” of his life.
“This closing chapter is going to be so hard to top, but I am going to try. I truly am forever grateful to have lived this amazing dream. Now onto the next exciting one…,” Watson’s tweet read.
Not the final season he expected
Watson would be disappointed with himself for not being able to contribute for his side, Chennai Super Kings, in his last season. He struggled throughout the season with some patches where we saw his previous self. None the less, Watson will remain an integral part of the franchise having led them to their third IPL title in 2018 with a scintillating ton in the final. Watson talks about the memorable innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in his announcement video.
The 39-year-old was bought by CSK two years ago in the 2018 auction. He played some memorable knocks for the franchise helping them to the title in 2018. He was also an important member of the side which finished as runner up in 2019. Watson started off with Rajsthan Royals in 2008 and lifted the cup in the very first season. And finished off with 3874 runs at a strike rate of 137.91 in the IPL including four hundreds to his name.
“It all started as a dream as a young kid saying to my Mum, as I watched a Test match, that I want to play for Australia. Now as I officially announce my retirement from all cricket I feel crazily lucky to live my dream,” Watson said in a video he posted.
Watson played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20Is at the international level. The veteran Australian all-rounder, who won two World Cups for the Australian side in 2007 and 2015, has numerous memorable moments in the field of cricket.
