Just a week after accusing the wealthiest NFL owner of abusing his power, Shannon Sharpe has returned with another serious allegation against Jerry Jones regarding his knowledge of football. He is supporting his accusation using Jones’ recent statement defending the front office’s lack of interest in Derrick Henry

The star running back has been quite in the news recently after he ranked first across the NFL in rushing stats and made the Baltimore Ravens’ rushing offense the best in the league. Due to his success in Baltimore, the Cowboys are facing criticism for not pursuing Henry, even though he expressed interest in joining.

Highlighting the 82-year-old’s statement of believing the four-time Pro Bowler would not have fit well in the Cowboys offense led by Dak Prescott, sports analyst Sharpe accused him of not understanding how football is played or should be played.

You make no attempts to run the football because you know you don’t have the guys that are capable of running the football. The more you talk Jerry, the worse it’s going to get. It’s really simple Jerry and you just let me know, you know every little about the game of football.

Shannon Sharpe asserted on the latest edition of ESPN’s The First Take show

His colleague Stephen A. Smith jumped into the conversation while agreeing with Sharpe and claiming that Jones was making it worse by justifying the decision to not pursue Henry– who is counted among the elite NFL players and takes pressure off the quarterback when he steps on the field.

Stephen A. Smith critiques Jerry Jones for vague justifications after losing Derrick Henry

While talking on the subject, the ESPN analyst Smith also criticized Jones for his vague justifications about losing Henry. He recalled that during the offseason, the All-Pro running back was in Dallas practicing and had publicly expressed interest in joining the Cowboys, yet the team didn’t give him importance.

To say what he [Jerry Jones] said about Derrick Henry literally makes him look like he doesn’t know football. And I’m not accusing him of not knowing football because I thought he’s putting together a damn good roster for the Dallas Cowboys over the years. But this explanation for Derrick Henry is more indictable against Jerry Jones than anything that comes out of his mouth.

Stephen A. Smith said

Smith further addressed Jones’ justification regarding the salary cap constraints for signing Henry, noting that he was willing to join for a modest salary of $6 to $8 million. He argued that this amount could have easily been accommodated even after allocating $60 million to Prescott and $30-40 million to CeeDee Lamb.
