“You wet the bed” – Shannon Sharpe blasts Deebo Samuel for dropping catches amidst social media drama
Deebo Samuel failed to back up his social media claims on the field and refused to own it, ticking off Shannon Sharpe.

After lodging 1405 yards with a league-high 18.2 yards per catch in 2021, the San Francisco 49ers agreed on a three-year, $73.5 million contract extension with $58.1 million guaranteed with Deebo Samuel. It was the last time Samuel crossed 1000 yards; in fact, the numbers gradually went down each year.
On top of it, as time passed by, Samuel’s output continued to dwindle. Recently, the Pro Bowler has been going through a patch of dropping passes. On Thursday, he had two drops, one a potential touchdown pass in a 12-6 loss against the Los Angeles Rams.
Prior to the game, Samuel tweeted that he wasn’t getting the ball like he used to, making it hard to make a difference. Then the very next day, he made a fool out of himself by failing to catch passes and then disabled his comment section on X.
Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe went on a rant against the 49ers’ wide receiver for the way he acted.

Samuel had a forgetful night. Besides dropping passes, he couldn’t create separation for his quarterback, Brock Purdy, to find him. He ended up completing just 3 catches for 16 yards, but more importantly; he has yet to catch more than 8 passes in a game and that was back in his second game this year against the Vikings.
Deebo Samuel needs to get his act together
Sharpe wants Samuel to own up to his mistakes and not run away from responsibility like his teammate De’Vondre Campbell. Younger players always look up to their seniors on how to conduct themselves on and off the pitch. Deebo Samuel’s behavior sets a bad precedent for the newcomers on the team while also putting his roster spot in danger.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan did not say much, but there was a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Yeah, that was a big one. Everyone knows the answer there, Deebo knows he needs to catch that."
Samuel should have grasped Brandon Aiyuk’s absence from the team as an opportunity to get a better deal at the end of the season, but to do that, he needs to catch the ball. The South Carolina graduate must show some degree of improvement to convince the front office to keep him beyond the current campaign.
