Shannon Sharpe ‘disrespects’ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Thunder as ‘weakest No. 1 seed’ in NBA
OKC Thunder beat the odds to top the Western Conference.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Shannon Sharpe
The Oklahoma City Thunder shocked everyone in the basketball world when, against the odds, they captured the number one seed in the hotly contested Western Conference. However, Shannon Sharpe chose the path that seemed shocking to most when he labeled them the ‘weakest No. 1 seed’ ever.
The OKC Thunder, with the youngest squad in the league, topped a conference with defending champions, Denver Nuggets, and despite this, Shannon Sharpe doesn’t believe they could make it to the Western Conference Finals. He made this known while on ESPN’s First Take alongside Stephen A. Smith and Brian Windhorst.
Do you actually think that the OKC Thunder can actually make it to the Western Conference (Finals)? Do you think they fear the OKC Thunder having home court? Really? This might be the weakest No. 1 seed in the NBA.Shannon Sharpe said
The Thunders have been incredible and well led by MVP longshot Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has now solidified himself as a top-tier point guard. their journey to the number one seed wasn’t easy as they had to navigate the West, which saw an influx of superstars. Furthermore, having Sharpe say what he said might even spur the young team to aim for the absolute top.
With the playoffs fever getting closer, the young core of the Thunder is set to make a deep run, even though Sharpe doesn’t believe in them. Their ascent to the top shows the league that they may be young but not pushovers.
Brian Windhorst believes Shannon Sharpe will regret his take on the OKC Thunder
After Sharpe made his bold and now controversial comment about the OKC Thunder, a fellow analyst on the show, Brian Windhorst, wouldn’t accept it, as he was quick to caution Sharpe. He said that while the Thunder aren’t at the level of the 2016-2017 Golden State Warriors, who lost just once during the playoffs en route to claiming the NBA title, he was confident that Sharpe would regret looking down on the young team.
Wow. The disrespect for Oklahoma City is crazy. Be careful because you’re gonna regret those words.
Brian Windhorst said
Apparently, not many people out there believe in the Thunder as much as Windhorst does, but it shouldn’t take away the fact that this young team was able to dethrone the Nuggets and take the number one seed in the most competitive conference in the NBA.
However, not much can be said other than they need to put their doubters to shame. Their chances of winning remain long, but they have what it takes, and it’d be foolish to rule them out.
