This season, many had hoped that Tua Tagovailoa would bounce back and revert to his 2023 form after a down season last year, amidst concussions and calls to retire from the game.

He chose to continue playing football and wanted to make the most of his massive $212 million contract, despite some believing the QB would be better off leaving the game for the sake of his future.

In the team’s opening round of the 2025 campaign, the Hawaiian QB struggled. Only in the fourth quarter did he manage to drive into the opposition’s end zone and score a touchdown.

After that game, debates about his quality of play resurfaced. Where some blamed the head coach, others, such as Shannon Sharpe, continued to question Tagovailoa’s worth.

I don’t think you are going to get the value for a quarterback if you would have tried to move him. So, I think they’re stuck with him. A 6’0″ QB with multiple concussions, that’s injury prone: ain’t a big market out there for a guy like that.

The Hall of Famer believes Tua Tagovailoa does not have the physical traits or the skills to be a trade target for opposing teams. If that is the case, the Miami Dolphins might have a tough time trying to offload him in the future.

Even though Tagovailoa is just 27 years old, how he performs under duress will be what any interested team would look at. The Indianapolis Colts exposed that, even though he has deflected those criticisms.

Cam Newton is not happy with talkative Tua Tagovailoa

One of Shannon Sharpe’s former colleagues at ESPN, Cam Newton, has also been critical of Tua Tagovailoa’s defensive comments. When he was speaking on First Take, he added a few more words to that opinion.

I don’t really like talkative Tua. Over this last month or so, this whole offseason, we’ve heard more from Tua Tagovailoa than we have ever have. I like quiet Tua. I like Alabama Tua, when all he did was just work… It’s getting really messy.

The former league MVP believes the Miami Dolphins QB is talking too much rather than focusing on his job on the field. If he removes those distractions and does his job, he would not have to defend himself this much.

Newton wants the old Alabama Tua Tagovailoa back. The same player who took over from Jalen Hurts and won the program its 17th National Championship.

Stephen A. Smith believes change is needed at the Miami Dolphins

After Cam Newton spoke about Tua Tagovailoa’s defense, Stephen A. Smith decided to chime in on their abysmal start, using some background information about the Miami Dolphins.

You have football players calling the Miami Dolphins soft. We all know the distractions in South Beach. They’re pathetic… Change is coming to Miami, and it needs to. Because they’re not a team, they’re just guys with talent.

Stephen A. Smith said

The longtime analyst added that the way the Dolphins players talk, they are fodder for the media. Those players are talking themselves into a mess, rather than keeping quiet and focusing on their job.

On top of that, he pointed out that Mike McDaniel‘s wizardry was good while it lasted. Now that opposing teams have learned how to counter them, the franchise needs someone who can will them to win.

Otherwise, they will continue to be labeled as soft, and that is not the way an NFL franchise is to be run. Smith expects major changes to come soon to the franchise.
