Even before the organization fired Darvin Ham, JJ Redick was being floated as a possible replacement for head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. NBA reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski claimed that Redick has become a major candidate now that Ham has been sacked by the Lakers. In addition, ex-NFL player Shannon Sharpe also made his case for JJ Redick to be the Lakers’ new head coach.

Redick already has a significant advantage as a Lakers candidate because of his strong friendship with LeBron James. Together, the two started the Mind the Game podcast in March 2024, and as of now, it has more than 500,000 subscribers.

Sharpe claimed that even Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors had “0 experience” before managing the Warriors, in support of Redick.

Steve Kerr didn't have any coaching experience, I don't think Steve Kerr was a coach. He ended up being a General Manager for Phoenix and he ended up getting the job for the Warriors.

Sharpe does have a point, citing Steve Kerr’s situation at the Warriors. Ultimately, it will be the Lakers’ decision regarding appointing JJ Redick as the head coach. It will be interesting to see who the Lakers appoint as their next head coach.

JJ Redick now has close ties with LeBron James

The recent development of a friendship between LeBron James and JJ Redick is something that no NBA fan could have predicted. Redick and James were never close friends as both played for different teams and had no ties off the court.

However, everything has changed, the two NBA stars have started their podcast together, “Mind The Game” podcast. The two have developed a good bond of friendship and talk about basketball on their podcast.

In addition, Redick can offer that same level of insight through the Mind the Game podcast, but to a far larger audience than he usually gets on his social media and podcast. Redick will be looking to make the most out of this opportunity given to him, especially chatting with one of the NBA greats LeBron James regularly.
