Glen “Big Baby” Davis, a former NBA forward, has completely upended the basketball community. In an alleged attempt to steal almost $5 million from a special insurance plan intended for NBA players and their families, Davis was found guilty.
Interestingly, he played a major role in the Boston Celtics’ 2008 championship victory. According to an ESPN story, the federal judge has sentenced him to 40 months in prison. However, former NFL player, Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on Davis’ prison sentence.
Sharpe claimed he felt no sympathy or remorse over Davis’ sentence in a recent podcast, “The Nightcap.”
These jacka**es that was 100% healthy...they had six homes they had 12 cars they blew all their money and now you messing it up for somebody else I don’t feel sorry for him.Shannon Sharpe said
Apart from Shannon Sharpe, many other former NBA players were upset with what Davis did. As per various reports, Davis will be supervised for three years after receiving his sentence. He will get the required drug treatment and attend required classes on money management throughout this time.
Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis is not the only former NBA player to be sentenced to prison
The former NBA player Glen “Big Baby” Davis got a 40-month prison sentence for his conviction in November 2023 for involvement with a planned attempt to cheat the league’s health insurance program. Notably, Davis is not the only one who was sentenced to prison for this fraud.
Twenty-two people, including Terrence Williams and Will Bynum, were among the 18 former players who received sentences in this case. They were found guilty of filing fraudulent claims for healthcare with the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.
In August 2023, Williams received a 10-year prison sentence. Will Bynum, another former NBA player was sentenced to prison alongside Glen Davis. However, his sentence was for 18 months which was quite lower than Davis’. What happens to these former NBA players next is yet unknown, but it is unacceptable for a crime like this to occur in any sport.
