Shaquille O’Neal and Vince Carter impressed by French star hitting ‘too small’ celebration after humiliating Lakers

With no Joel Embiid and no Paul George on the floor, Tuesday’s matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers should have been an easy win for the LakeShow, who had been seeing a midseason turnaround after their early struggles. Instead, the 76ers held onto their home court with a 118-104 victory, aided in large part by French star Guerschon Yabusele.

Although the star of the show for the 76ers was Tyrese Maxey who scored a game-high 43 points to spearhead the win, Yabusele played a crucial role on both ends of the floor, especially in the first half of the game. During the game’s halftime show, TNT’s Inside the NBA Tuesday Crew panel spearheaded by Shaquille O’Neal, Vince Carter and Candance Parker alongside host Adam LeFkoe addressed his play.

In the first half of the game, Guerschon Yabusele scored 12 points on 5-7 shooting alongside a number of thunderous plays to help lead the Sixers to a 16-point lead over the Lakers at halftime. During one of these plays, Yabusele took on the assignment of bullying Anthony Davis in the post, finishing with a tough shot around the rim before hitting Davis with the ‘too small’ gesture in trash talk.

That was not all, as he would also throw down a couple of monster jams at the ring, including a transition slam that would unfortunately lead to an injury for Davis, ending his night with an abdominal injury. Yabusele would end the game with 14 points, although his first half contributions would be crucial for the Sixers in securing a massive win over the Lakers.

This was not the first time Guerschon Yabusele has stolen the show during a game featuring LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the floor. He was also a key part of the French Olympic Basketball team that went toe-to-toe against Team USA in the Olympic Finals, led by Yabusele and Victor Wembanyama.

During that game, he would reintroduce himself to the basketball world with a thunderous jam over James which would leave the audience and all-spectators in shock. His efforts in that game, and across the entirety of the Olympics would play a crucial hand in earning him a roster spot with the Sixers this offseason.

As a versatile wing on both ends of the floor, Guerschon Yabusele brings much needed physicality and life to a Sixers team dealing with a season from hell. While they have remained plagued by their injury concerns all year round, Yabusele’s play has been a positive for the team, averaging 10.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 43 games this season.
