Shaquille O'Neal believes that Team USA will not win gold at the next Olympics

The NBA community was blessed with an eventful offseason this summer. Not only was the summer packed with trades and free-agent signings, but fans got to witness the greatest stars on the planet play at the Olympics. Team USA clinched the gold medal as Shaquille O’Neal and the community watched on. However, Shaq believes that the gold medal at the Paris Olympics will be the last one for Team USA.

In a recent appearance on First Things First with Nick Wright and Chris Broussard, Shaquille O’Neal revealed his issues with the future of Team USA. O’Neal believes that the gold medal obtained by the core trio of LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry will be the last one that the USA secures as the stars continue to age out.

I was thinking about this the other day this is probably our last gold medal. Think about that like there ain’t gonna be no more KD, no more Bron, no more my favorite player Steph Curry. These young fellas going to have to step up, and these, you know, other countries they not playing. this ain’t like 1996 and 2000 when it was a cakewalk.

Shaquille O’Neal responded to a question about the future of the NBA with concerns about the talent pool in American basketball. His biggest concern is that the talent gap between foreign nations and the USA is not what it used to be in the 90s, as many European countries are quickly catching up to the modern game.

This was especially evident in the Olympics this year, with Team Serbia and Team France putting up a tough fight against Team USA in the elimination rounds. It was the heroics of the core trio of LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant that ultimately led the Americans to victory in those games.

Shaquille O’Neal reveals the next face of the NBA

Shaquille O’Neal has always been very clear about the players he likes and believes will succeed. In the latest episode of First Things First, Shaq was asked who he believed would be the next face of the NBA.

The Big Diesel had many options to pick from, including Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, Jayson Tatum, and others. However, there are only two stars that he truly believes have the potential to be the next face of basketball.

I would have to lean towards Luka. You got Luka still there. I mean (Wemby) will be one of the faces of the league. Very, very, very skilled big man, can do it all. I really really like his game.

Shaquille O’Neal weighed in

In Shaq’s opinion, Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama are slated to be two of the leading faces of the league. Shaquille O’Neal still holds Luka Doncic as the most probable star set to become the face of the league. However, he does believe Wembanyama has the potential to be one of the upcoming stars that could lead the league’s global branding, despite some concerns with his game.
