Shaquille O'Neal hints at partnership with Mark Cuban, Lebron James

Los Angeles Lakers Legend Shaquille O’Neal has always been open about his interest in owning an NBA team alongside his other business ventures. The Hall of Famer was amongst the many potential suitors for buying a majority stake in the Phoenix Suns before multi-billionaire Mat Ishbia took over.

It seems like O’Neal is still on the lookout to become an NBA owner alongside former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban and future Hall of Famer Lebron James. Cuban joined Shaq on the legendary big man’s ‘The Big Podcast with Shaq’ to talk about the possibility of owning a future NBA team once again.

Cuban has been a part of the NBA before, as the majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks before his surprising decision to sell his stake in the organization late last year. However, the possibility of joining hands to take ownership of an NBA team is still on the cards, as Cuban revealed on O’Neal’s podcast.

If my kids were like – all right we’re set, that’s not what we want or whatever – and it was Shaq yeah, I would look at making a comeback… So, you know, we get me, you, LeBron, we might have something there.

O’Neal and Cuban also spoke about the opportunity to partner with Lakers star James, who has widely expressed his interest in owning an NBA team. In response to Cuban’s question about including James in a partnership venture, O’Neal seemed excited about the possibility of the trio partnering up.

To answer your question, I would love to go on with LeBron.

Shaquille O’ Neal’s long list of business ventures

Shaquille O’Neal was always busy working in the post during his playing days. The NBA legend has kept himself just as busy in his retirement through his business ventures. His portfolio includes investments in Google, Lyft, Ring, and Vitaminwater, among others.

O’Neal also has an ownership stake in businesses such as Papa John’s, Auntie Anne’s, and Five Guys. With a portfolio that diverse, it doesn’t seem long before Shaquille O’Neal breaks into the realm of sports team ownership.

However, it would not be his first time in this realm, with the 4x NBA Champion previously owning a minority stake in the Sacramento Kings before selling it in 2022 due to his other business ventures. With legends like Lebron James and Mark Cuban on his flank, we might see Shaq joining the ranks of other professional athletes like Tom Brady in owning a professional sports team.
