Shawn Kemp had the opportunity to play against both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in their prime. He noticed similarities between the two, including their physical traits and athleticism. Kemp believes Kobe had the raw potential to be a great player, similar to Jordan.

LeBron is no Michael Jordan. Kobe is more Michael Jordan, and LeBron is more Magic Johnson… I don’t see how you compare those two. He’s such a bigger and stronger person than Michael Jordan was.

Kemp recalled his experiences playing against Kobe, including a memorable playoff series in 2002 where Kobe led the Lakers to a victory over Kemp’s Trail Blazers. Kemp tried to motivate his teammate Ruben Patterson, dubbed the “Kobe Stopper”, but ultimately realized that Kobe was unstoppable.

When I got the chance to go against Kobe, I wanted to test his a**. I used to have Ruben Patterson on my team, and I used to shake water. Kobe stopper. I used to go around and just gas these guys up to play against Kobe, but there was no answer to him.
