On last week’s SmackDown, GM Nick Aldis attempted to make the ladder match between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble official. However, both stars refused to sign the contract. As a result, Aldis revealed that the rivals would put pen to paper inside the ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Moreover, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels would act as the moderator for this segment.
Ahead of the contract signing, Michaels sent out one final message on his X account. The Heartbreak Kid will have a tough task in hand tonight. After all, he’ll be standing in the same ring as two men who’ve grown to loathe each other. As such, Michaels will have to be cautious while carrying out what will most likely be a chaotic contract signing.
Over the past few months, Owens and Rhodes have resorted to just beating each other up. This has led to them brawling throughout arenas and causing havoc for officials. At the previous Saturday Night’s Main Event, Rhodes defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against his former friend.
.@CodyRhodes, @FightOwensFight… We've heard both sides of the story. It's time to make it official.

I'll see you both LIVE tomorrow night in my hometown San Antonio for #SNME! pic.twitter.com/nRr5AXjq9w
The American Nightmare emerged victorious, albeit under questionable circumstances. Feeling wronged out of a rightful title win, The Prizefighter launched an attack on Rhodes following their match. Owens delivered a Package Piledriver on Cody Rhodes before stealing the Winged Eagle championship.
Since then, Kevin Owens has declared himself as the ‘true’ WWE Champion. Both the Winged Eagle and Undisputed Championships will be hanging above the ring at the Royal Rumble. Needless to say, fans can expect a brutal encounter between the two friends-turned-rivals.
What else is in store for Saturday Night’s Main Event?
Emanating from Shawn Michaels‘ hometown of San Antonio, Texas, Saturday Night’s Main Event is expected to be yet another thrilling night for WWE. In addition to the contract signing, four huge matches are set to take place on the night.
Gunther will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso. The latter got the better of The Ring General on the go-home Raw episode this week. Meanwhile, Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman will square off in a battle of the behemoths.
For the first time since winning the title, Rhea Ripley will defend the Women’s World Championship against Nia Jax. Furthermore, Bron Breakker will also put his Intercontinental Title on the line against Sheamus. Needless to say, fans cannot wait to see how this event shapes up the road to WrestleMania.
