Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark endured one of the toughest nights of her career during Game 2 of the WNBA Playoffs. The team was eliminated from the 2024 WNBA Playoffs, capping up a busy season for rookie prodigy.

In Game 2 Fever lost 87-81 against the Connecticut Suns. As always, a contest involving Clark had some controversy. During the game, Clark was fouled vigorously but the referees ignored the fouls. This led to fans calling out the officials on social media.

Not only that, Clark also had her eye-poked in Game 1 against the Suns, though she gracefully refused to shed too much light on the situation. This time around, the Suns players once again played dirty against her and seemingly got away with it. This did not go down with the WNBA community.

Additionally, Clark performed significantly better in Game 2. The Rookie of the Year had 25 points and nine assists on Wednesday (September 25) night, but it was not enough to seal victory. Her teammate Aliyah Boston tallied 16 points and 19 rebounds.

Clark had an unprecedented season both on and off the court. She broke the single-season assist record and set the league’s game milestone with 19. Clark additionally set the rookie record for points in a season despite playing only 40 games.

That Clark’s season was coming to an end early did not sit well with many fans, especially when they saw the referees turning a blind eye despite Clark getting fouled a lot. Clark and her teammates will look to bounce back next season. But first, they will look to re-energize during the off-season before returning to action.

Thanks to Clark, Indiana Fever led the league in attendance, both at home and away. They averaged 17,036 at home and more than 15,000 on the road. When Fever was on the road, four clubs even shifted their home games to larger arenas to fit more fans. It will be interesting to watch how Clark and Co. bounce back from this setback and come back to do it all again next season.
