UFC Welterweight champion Khamzat Chimaev is one strong and intense man to deal with inside the Octagon, but one humble man outside who is connected to his roots well. Chimaev is on what can be probably the fastest rise in competition ever seen in UFC history as within just his fifth UFC fight, Chimaev is going to face #2 ranked welterweight and former title challenger in Gilbert Burns. The last time a climb that fast to the ladders of ranking was seen was during the run in the featherweight division by UFC megastar Conor McGregor.

Chimaev is an undefeated man with a 100% finish rate inside the Octagon, with his stardom coming from his first two UFC fights that he picked up and won within just 10 days. In his third fight, Chimaev knocked out a serious welterweight contender in Gerald Meerschaert within just 17 seconds. By the time Chimaev won his fourth UFC fight via submission at UFC 267, and that too after a year layoff, it was observed that Chimaev has only been hit twice in all of his 4 fights.

At UFC 273 this weekend, Chimaev’s fight against Burns is going to be the toughest test of his career, but the toughest test of his life lies in his upbringing. In an ESPN MMA exclusive interview, Chimaev talks about how his mother took care of him and his 2 other siblings all through his life, especially when they shifted from Chechnya to Sweden.

“She thinks always about us,” says Chimaev “She was like you know it’s when I was young you don’t understand why she gives food to us and like you know she was waiting for us when we finished the food and [then] she left and ate as well. Now when I become old with time and understand what she did, that now you wanna give back everything you know, it’s like that’s why I always feel like I have to make her life better.”

What do you make of Khamzat Chimaev talking highly of his mother? Only a tough time alongside a loved one can make a tough man who would fight the world for that loved one, and Chimaev seems to be that man. Who do you think wins between Chimaev and Burns at UFC 273, will the ‘Borz’ Chimaev run over Burns staying undefeated and backing up his hype or will Burns be the first bitter learning experience for Chimaev?
