Shedeur Sanders admits he won’t shed tears after getting drafted: “You’re gonna see diamonds”
Shedeur Sanders will spend draft day at home with his family, waiting to hear his name called—possibly by Tom Brady’s Raiders.

Shedeur Sanders has no time to shed tears. He’s focused on making a mark with the NFL team that drafts him this month.
The departing Colorado quarterback is a top 5 quarterback as per various mock drafts, making him one of the best quarterbacks of the class alongside Miami’s Cam Ward and Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart.
The draft will take place in Green Bay in a few days. First-round picks received invitations to attend the draft, except Shedeur Sanders won’t be there despite being a top pick.
I gonna be at home with my family… What the moment would be like? I don’t know. I don’t really think about other stuff. It’s like too much things in the way to think about other drafts so, my job is just take on each and everything on the schedule and when I am done with that, then I can focus on [draft].

A lot of players become emotional when their names get called out during the draft. In 2023, CJ Stroud bawled his eyes out when the Houston Texans selected him second overall. Will fans see something similar from Sanders?
You are gonna see diamonds…Too many of them for sure. It’s gonna be legendary. You will see. I am excited for this [NFL draft].

Sanders’ good buddy and Colorado teammate Travis Hunter, on his part, sent a message to Roger Goodell.
He better say wide receiver and DB.

Hunter is listed as a wide receiver in his official draft profile. However, he wants to play both offense and defense. At Pro Day, he only showed his catching skills.
Are the Raiders still a possible destination for Shedeur Sanders?
Sanders remains confident that he will be a top 3 pick and land at either the Titans, Browns, or Giants. The Titans appear to be leaning more toward Miami’s Ward and the Browns are unsure about if they should draft a quarterback or take either Penn State’s Abdul Carter or Hunter.

This leaves the Giants taking Sanders. However, they signed two veterans recently. Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, aside from re-signing Tommy DeVito for another year. The Giants brass, like Shedeur and his father/coach Deion Sanders, has no qualms about it.
Yet on the off chance the Giants don’t take Sanders, then the next team is the Jaguars, who are happy with Trevor Lawrence. It points to Sanders sliding down one more spot to the Raiders. The Vegas franchise reunited newly appointed coach Pete Carroll with former Seahawks QB Geno Smith. If Sanders does fall down that far, then Tom Brady will most likely select him.
Sanders can sit back and learn Carroll’s playbook and compete with Aidan O’Connell for the backup QB job. After Smith’s contract runs out in a couple of years, the Raiders can name Sanders as their starter.
The only issue that stands in the way of the Raiders is Smith’s $40 million during the first year and $66.5 million guaranteed.
The entire Geno Smith situation is really unique… It’s not a contract that in any way precludes you from drafting a quarterback. It does, however, give the Raiders optionality because they don’t feel the pressure to take a quarterback.

Smith has a $31 million cap hit in the 2025-26 season, which is probably the reason most mock drafts project the Raiders to select a running back (Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty) instead of a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders.
The Raiders can still select Sanders if they are adventurous enough. Vegas is already a buzzing place, but the presence of Sanders will surely elevate the mood in the Raider Nation.
