Shedeur Sanders Admits to Making Some “Wrong Choices” Amid Speeding Ticket Violation

Shedeur Sanders claimed that he has made mistakes before but has learned from them.

Before the ticketing incident created more problems for him, Shedeur Sanders took the initiative to address it. The Cleveland Browns quarterback took a slight detour to answer teammate David Njoku’s call and showed up at his celebrity softball game on Thursday.

Sanders and his cavalry entered the venue and recorded a video. In it, the 23-year-old apologized (kind of) for breaching the speed limit on the highway.

I’m just a little boy … I made some wrong choices personally. I gotta own up to them. I made some not-great choices. I learn from ‘em. I learn.

Sanders, a polarizing figure, divided the internet after police stopped him for speeding on the Ohio State highway on June 17. Unfortunately for the former Colorado quarterback, Henry Ruggs III was making headlines, so people judged a minor traffic violation as a serious crime.

The criticism grew even more when it was reported that this wasn’t the first time the cops had stopped Sanders on the side of the road. 10 days earlier, Sanders received a ticket for speeding and was supposed to appear in court, but he failed to show up.

Analyst doesn’t view Shedeur Sanders as a week one starter

Sanders should erase the speeding ticket incident from his memories and focus on impressing Kevin Stefanski in the Browns camp. The news from the OTAs and the minicamp has been a mixed bag. However, the consensus hints that Sanders is adapting to Stefanski’s playbook at a rapid pace.

He’s up against the mammoth task of outperforming two former Super Bowl winners, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, as well as fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy backed Sanders to beat out the competition and lay claim to the starting quarterback job.

The thing I love about Shedeur is he seems way more focused, and ‘I’m here; I’m not here to be nobody’s backup.’ I think he gonna be starting in the next five.

Despite the former Eagles and Chiefs rusher’s optimism, veteran analyst Matt Fontana isn’t ready to put his eggs in Sanders’ basket.

I’m pretty confident saying this, so I’m going to do it. Shedeur Sanders is not your Week 1 starter. He’s not, and I don’t think that’s going out on a limb. It’s just not going to be that way.

Matt Fontana said on his show

Fontana prefers Flacco as the starter because he is a proven quarterback and played under Stefanski in 2023.

But here’s the question—do Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry view Flacco as a long-term solution? Very soon, he will be the joint-oldest active quarterback with Aaron Rodgers. So maybe Pickett is the answer? Only Stefanski knows.

One route they should not follow is how the Colts have handled Anthony Richardson. Last year, when the chips were down, head coach Shane Steichen benched Richardson for Flacco, and he played most of the remaining games, with the second-year signal caller making a few fringe appearances.

The Colts were nowhere near qualifying for the playoffs, so Steichen could have easily let Richardson finish out the season to gain much-needed experience.

Stefanski must sort out the quarterback dilemma quickly; otherwise, they will be looking at another losing campaign.
