Excellent ball placement, accuracy, and poise; are the adjectives that scouts are using to describe Shedeur Sanders‘ game. The one term that is not being used to describe his style of play is athletic. Despite being the son of Deion Sanders, arguably the greatest defensive back to play the game, Shedeur Sanders is not the fastest guy on the field.

Coach Prime was an athletic anomaly. He recorded a 4.27 in the 40-yard dash but his son Shedeur Sanders, who abstained from taking part in the drills at the NFL Combine, realizes that his athletic prowess is not on the same level as his father.

The potential first-overall pick of the 2025 Draft joked about his athletic prowess while speaking to Mike Florio and Chris Simms on NFL on NBC. The latter expressed his surprise over Shedeur’s lack of speed due to his last name.

When I heard you were coming up the ranks, I was like, ‘Man, he must be fast. I can’t wait to see him.

However, the speed genes went to Shilo and Shedeur got the arm to compensate for it.The quarterback went on to joke about it.

No, I got my speed from my mom.

Shedeur Sanders added

He blamed his mother, Pilar Sanders‘ genetic disposition, for his lack of speed and athletic ability. Fortunately for him, his position requires him to have a good arm and vision, both of which he has. Shedeur can scramble too when needed despite lacking speed.

Shedeur Sanders prefers to capitalize on his strengths rather than his weaknesses

The quarterback has never perceived his lack of speed as a disadvantage. His father has iterated in the past that Shedeur has made up for the shortcomings by using the opportunity to work on his strengths to improve his understanding of the game and spend more time watching film and analyzing defenses.

Shedeur Sanders has proven himself to be box office. Similar to his father, he exudes confidence and is seldom afraid to make bold takes about himself. It is not surprising to see because the fame and all the eyes on him are nothing new for him. Since his birth, Shedeur has been thrust into the spotlight and he has learned to embrace it over the years.

His actions back up the talk. He had a 74% completion rate over the last season and led Colorado to a 9-4 record. As the race to be the top pick in the draft intensifies, Shedeur remains reassured that he will have an immediate impact irrespective of where he lands.
