Since making his NFL debut, Shedeur Sanders had amassed just 405 yards in 2.5 games, with his previous game an aberration on the part of the coaches.

Kevin Stefanski and his offensive coaches were accused of not allowing the 5th-round pick to play with freedom, but the QB ensured those questions were shut down.

Sanders did not want to create a beef with his head coach, especially with Deshaun Watson‘s return threatening to throw his rookie season in jeopardy. Amidst all the criticism that was thrown in Stefanski’s direction, it seemed it worked, as the 43-year-old head coach allowed his rookie signal caller to open the taps against the league’s worst team in Week 14.

Taking advantage of his improved chemistry with his offensive unit, Shedeur Sanders threw for 364 yards, while connecting on a near 55% of his throws. No wonder reporters had to ask him what was working for him in his career-best performance.

God was working for me, honestly… When there’s a lot of confusion, when there’s a lot of adversity, when there’s a lot of things going on, that’s when I feel like God steps in the most for me to be able to tell me to stay mentally clear, and stay mentally close to him.

Shedeur Sanders replied

The Texas native believes his relationship with God is what helped him stay steady and play his best game to date. After becoming the first rookie QB this season to throw for over 300 yards, it is unlikely that he will be demoted from his starting job.

Shedeur Sanders has heartfelt moment with Jerry Jeudy after 60-yard TD score

Ahead of their Week 14 clash against the Tennessee Titans, Kevin Stefanski was not the only one facing the brickbats for seemingly throttling Shedeur Sanders in their previous game. The team’s leading wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy, also came under fire for going off on an animated sideline rant during their blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Since then, the wideout and his QB have faced questions about their relationship, and both have done their part to avoid handing out details, and also ensured reporters know that they had talked it through.

Late in the 2nd quarter, with the Cleveland Browns trailing, Shedeur Sanders was tasked to find an open receiver and continue to move the ball down the field.

Once he set his feet, he noticed Jerry Jeudy breaking away from two defenders, and the QB threw a perfectly timed dart before his receiver was about to turn towards the end zone.

Thankfully, this time the wideout did not drop the ball and galloped all the way to the end zone for a touchdown. After the score, Sanders went up to him, and they embraced while kneeling.

Myles Garrett praises Shedeur Sanders on career-best performance

The Cleveland Browns were just 2 points away from tying the Tennessee Titans and sending it to overtime. But head coach Kevin Stefanski had other plans. Despite the loss, star pass rusher Myles Garrett had nothing but praise for his rookie.

I think he did well. He came up big when we needed him to… He looked composed, escaped out of some sacks, broke the pocket. Made some big-time plays. I’m looking for him to continue to grow.

Myles Garrett said to reporters

The superstar would have appreciated it if he said this after a win, but he was happy with what he saw, as no rookie Browns QB has done what the 5th-round pick managed.

The team moves on to its final 4 games, all of which are against prospective playoff teams. The going will be tough. But what Sanders does in those games will go a long way in determining his career.
