Colorado fans will have to wait longer to see former quarterback Shedeur Sanders‘ return to Boulder. The 23-year-old will remain in Cleveland, in case the Browns decide to start him as the quarterback.

The situation in Cleveland is dire. Although the Browns weren’t viewed as a playoff team, hardly anyone predicted that they would be 2-6 after eight games and rooted to the bottom of the AFC North.

Joe Flacco won one of the two games before being demoted to the bench and subsequently traded to the Bengals. Rookie Dillon Gabriel took over the QB1 job and has been used mostly as a conservative ball manager.

Despite throwing for 702 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in six appearances, Gabriel has a 59% pass completion rate. The lack of explosive plays has hurt the Browns’ offense.

Team captain and star pass rusher, Myles Garrett, had to be calmed down last week after he lost his cool on the sideline during the loss against the New England Patriots.

Amidst all of it, Shedeur Sanders has waited patiently for his opportunity on the bench. He has yet to see first-team football since the Browns’ third preseason game in August.

On Thursday in a livestream, Sanders revealed that he will remain in Cleveland as he continues to recover from tightness in his back and won’t be able to attend the homecoming celebrations in Colorado.

Am I coming to see you homecoming? Nah, I’m not coming to see you at homecoming. I can’t make it out there. I wish I could, though, but it just can’t happen. I got treatment out here. I can’t be eh. I gotta get ready. Big ready.

Even though head coach Kevin Stefanski said that switching quarterbacks is not a priority, the situation can change in the blink of an eye. Flacco’s departure is a good example. Who would have thought that the guy brought in as the bridge quarterback would be traded to the Bengals of all places?

Regardless, that’s no longer a concern in Cleveland. Right now, fans want to see the team win some games, and if Gabriel is not the right man for the job, perhaps Stefanski should turn to Sanders. At the very least, give the fans what they want.

When can Shedeur Sanders start for the Browns?

After Sanders was inactive for the Patriots game, fans began to speculate whether the Browns are making plans to trade the former Buffaloes’ star. Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot swept all the chatter under the rug by confirming that Sanders’ back issues are genuine and the Browns haven’t discussed a trade.

The Browns are still banking on Gabriel to put more points on the board, but if he fails to elevate the offense, then Sanders would be given the green light to make his debut. So, how quickly can Browns fans see Sanders’ number 12 jersey on the field? According to Heavy.com‘s Max Dible, fans can cross the New York Jets fixture on November 9.

The Browns have been clear that they want to see what they have in Gabriel, but if he isn’t making plays and the team is still trying to win, then Sanders might be the logical answer. If Cleveland acquiesces to a lost season coming out of the bye, then it shouldn’t really matter if it’s Gabriel or Sanders under center, as the rest of the year is merely an audition for both rookies to keep their jobs long-term.

Sanders played four years of college football at Jackson State and Colorado. He made a total of 50 appearances and posted a 36-14 record, 1263 completions for 14327 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. The Browns drafted him in the fifth round, 144th overall.
